Restoration just completed on this 1984 GMC Sierra 4x4. This was a diesel from the factory but has been converted to gas with a small block GM 350 and 350 transmission. Here is a list of everything that was done during the restoration:
Dash cap installed
New carpet
New seat cover and headliner.
Refinished door panels
Fresh exterior paint. Any visible rust was either cut out and replaced with new sheet metal or the entire panel was replaced (see pics)
New body molding
New tires
Rebuilt front and rear axles
Rebuilt lock out hubs
New 6” lift
New front air dam/spoiler
New window molding
There are a few things I didn’t finish:
The horn does not work
I didn’t re-install the all of the A/C components (but I have them and they go with the truck)
Missing the emblem on the horn button
The factory radio is not working
The bed was not repainted when I painted the truck (but the liner covers it up)
The parking brake is not connected
There is a small trans leak I haven’t identified so you will get a drip from time to time
The only other things I can tell you that might be considered a flaw is the rear drivers side bed panel did not come out as laser smooth as I had hoped. I bought the panel used, in primer and should have just gone with a new one but it’s solid with no rust. The one I replaced had rust from a previous dent. There is also a little unevenness below the passenger door side molding I missed when sanding. Additionally the cab corners were worked before I got it and I did not try and dig into them to see what was done. I just sanded and repainted. The reason I bring this up is to point out that if you are a perfectionist looking for a concourse show winning restoration this is not the truck for you. It also not being sold for 20k either.
The engine is strong and transmission shifts perfect. Not sure on the gearing but it's got a good highway gear and can run 70+MPH without winding out the engine. You can drive it across country if needed. Of course the gas mileage won't thrill you but you can do it. Odometer show's 8k but I'mguessing that's at least108k.
