This is a true 1966 Ford Mustang GT Convertible ordered just the way you would have done it. Loving care through the years has left a Mustang that you will enjoy owning and driving. The super straight body was sanded to the metal and resprayed 5 years ago in the original Candy Apple Red. The motor was also refreshed and operates as new. The only metal work done was a fender bottom replacement below the right rear wheel. Car has never been hit! You will find date code correct numbers wherever you look on this car. Front end is all original except for one lower ball joint and the sway bar snubbers I just replaced. This GT comes with the buck tag from the assembly line in Metuchen, NJ. The tag shows all of the items installed on this car including the P10 option GT package.
Basics are Candy Apple Red exterior [code T] with a standard black interior [code 26]. 289 V-8, 225 horsepower with a 4 barrel carb [code A], 4 speed transmission [code 5], with 3.00:1 Traction Lock rear end [code A], and factory air. The interior is original except for the front seat covers I installed over the winter. Original date coded seat covers were removed because I put a knee through one cleaning the inside of the car. Build date was Sept. 22, 1965. All rubber around windshield and windows has been replaced. In fact, I have a record of every gallon of gas and every item I have put on this car. I have added headrests because of my wife’s neck surgeries.
This is a very straight car, quite original with a fantastic paint job. Since buying the car 5 years ago, I have added 22,000 miles to the 71,000 on it when I bought it. It has been to many car shows, winning 3rd place “Occasionally Driven” at a Mustang National in Beaumont, TX. I have driven it to the 50th Mustang Birthday in Charlotte NC, Cruising the Coast in Florida, and the Hot Rod Power Tour in the Midwest all from my home in NE Texas. I have taken fantastic care of this car keeping it in a climate-controlled garage but always driving it to whatever car activity we go to. You will be proud to own and drive it for sure.
The manual top is in perfect shape as is the engine. Never using any oil. The car sits on styled steel rally wheels with new Tiger Paw tires. I have installed chrome valve covers, seat belts, chrome Monte Carlo bar, a Shelby style Mustang air cleaner, and a Sanyo AC Compressor. I have all of the original stuff to reinstall if you wish. I also have a drop-in console which is nice as it provides an arm rest. I have the original radio but I have installed a premium RetroSound radio with Bluetooth pickup and USB plus the AM-FM stations.
The GT Equipment Group, including front disc brakes, wood trimmed steering wheel, special handling package components, increased rate front and rear springs, larger shock absorbers, 21.7:1 steering ratio and larger front stabilizer bar is complete. It has dual trumpeted exhaust, full-length black racing stripes down both sides of the lower body with GT badging, GT gas cap and the original fog lights. Included is the original spare tire showing a little use but still has the white tire mold dust on it. Everything on this car works well and it drives as a new one!
