1964 Ford Mustang Additional Info:

The first Mustang off the assembly line was a car very much like this 1964.5 Mustang convertible, and since then the very earliest Mustangs have been a favorite among collectors. Timeless good looks combined with all the unique features of the early cars, this is a great Mustang you can enjoy every day.Wimbledon White was on the first Mustang and for good reason: it looks fantastic on the first pony car. Add in the high-end modern pearl finish, and you've got a car that really turns heads. With a comprehensive restoration a few years ago, it still looks spectacular and offers near show level paint (especially when the right light hits the pearl) and bodywork to complement its July production date. You need good gaps and panel alignment on a light-colored car, too, so they took their time and got the doors to fit well and even the trunk lid, which is often challenging, sits right. A glance at the door tag will reveal that this one used to be code F Guardsman Blue, but given how this one looks today, it's easy to see why the decision was made to change the color. You'll also note that the restoration was thorough and comprehensive, as there's simply no trace of the original blue paint anywhere on the car. Beautiful chrome bumpers, a correct early-style grille with cross bars, and twin exhaust tips under the rear valence all give this car plenty of jewelry to sparkle against the shiny white pearl paint. The white interior is actually a seldom-seen combination that looks great and works rather well on a vehicle that's going to spend a lot of time out in the sun. You'd think that white would instantly show wear, but it remains in excellent condition with only very minor signs of use on the door panels, whose armrests might be original. Black carpets take a bit of the edge off the bright interior, but you'll definitely dig things like the white steering wheel and matching dash pad that give this pony a very unique look. The original gauges are bright and crisp and the factory radio has been replaced by a newer AM/FM/cassette head unit that fits like it was born there. Overhead there's a white convertible top that stashes under a matching white vinyl boot and the trunk is correctly outfitted with a reproduction plaid mat and full-sized spare tire assembly. This particular Mustang carries an early F-code 260 cubic inch V8 which wears correct black engine enamel that's indicative of the early cars. Shiny chrome valve covers and a matching air cleaner aren't stock but they look right under the hood and it's wonderful to see that this car carries both power steering and power brakes, making it extremely pleasant to drive. It starts easily and has a great V8 sound thanks to true dual exhaust with glasspack-style mufflers and there's an eager feeling to early Mustangs that's hard to replicate anywhere else. The 3-speed automatic transmission always seems to be in the right gear for what you're doing and according to the door tag, there are 3.00 gears out back so this Mustang stays relaxed on the highway. The results of the restoration still show up in the form of nice satin black floors with all the convertible reinforcements still intact, a recent gas tank, and air shocks out back to keep a level attitude regardless of the load. Upgraded styled steel wheels are a perfect Mustang touch and carry 205/70/14 BFGoodrich radials that fit right. With all the unique features on the pre-July 31 Mustangs, this is a car that will always get Mustang fans talking. It's also a wonderful and fun convertible in its own right. Call today!
