1931 Ford Model A Additional Info:
1931 Model A 2 Door Coupe with Rumble Seat.
This car was purchased out of a collection about 15 years ago from Long Island, New York by the last owner. The car was subjected to a full ground up restoration and was intended to be a show car and was restored with the MARC judging standards utilized to guide the restoration.
The former owner had worked with his son (who works as a bodywork professional) to complete this restoration. The car was fully stripped and painted with a base and clear coat system to the Ford Maroon and Black two tone 1931 color scheme. The accent pin striping and and the wheels have been painted with the correct Vermilion Red accent paint. The condition of the paint is as seen in the photographs and is very good to near excellent in condition.
The engine was sent out to Schwalm's Babbitted Bearings Model A Engine Rebuilding in Strasburg, PA. Their reputation is impeccable. The engine work was conducted to restore the engine and not provide any performance modifications with the exception of hardened valves / seats (as his son recalls). If you watch the video, you will hear the engine running as well as see the car driving.
The engine starts immediately when cold and hot. I am including the video of a full cold start. This engine has been utilized a small amount and needs to be fully broken in. Any prospective purchaser should observe that they take the proper precautions for freshly rebuilt engines.
The rear end and transmission were also gone through an the car shifts as it should and there is no rear end whining. There are no oils leaks as the seals are all essentially new.
The chassis of the car was stripped and painted with the glossy black enamel as can be seen in the photographs. The chassis hardware has been replaced as can also be seen in the photographs
During the restoration, the interior was also fully replaced with a professional Lebaron-Bonney interior. All of the interior was replaced and there are no stains or odd smells. The wood graining on the garnishes and along the dash is in great freshly painted condition.
The roof insert is brand new, the rubber is great, and the running board covers are also in new condition. The car wears Firestone blackwall tires as a car of this caliber and age should.
All of the plating has been fully redone as well and it can be seen in the photographs.
The only thing not working on the car is the odometer as it was not tested or restored before the car was assembled and was not of concern to the past owner. Restored units are readily available. The car is titled as an Antique Vehcile in PA and the odometer statement is an exempt status title.
There is a paint blemish inside the car on the front pillar of the drivers side window frame (not the garnish).
The restoration was completed approximately 9 years ago, unfortunately the owner passed at the time of the completion and never was able to drive the vehicle or to have it judged. After it was completed, the car was started and moved regularly in the drive of his son's home and was stored undercover in a heated garage. I had purchased the car from his son when he had decided to let it go as I have been friends with him for about a decade and I added it to my car collection.
I have utilized the car a few times (maybe 15-20 short rides), but I do not go to car shows, and as such, the car does not get driven much nor has it been subjected to judging. I would estimate that I have put on less than 100 miles since I started to drive it.
In accordance with the old adage, "happy wife, happy life" I have decided to let this car go. Since it has been parked in her garage space, I had clearly forgotten this old adage when I had agreed to buy the car.
If you have specific questions or would like different photographs, please send me your telephone number through e-bay and I will call you back.
I am hoping that a true Model A enthusiast will purchase this car and get a fantastic car for much less than the cost of a full restoration of one of these cars.
The car is being sold in "AS-IS" condition and "where-is". While I am happy to try to answer questions or provide more photographs, and I love the car, it is up to any bidder to determine if the condition is to their satisfaction. Inspections are welcomed and encouraged.
The car is expected to be collected upon the transfer of title to buyer. The car and title will not transfer until all funds have cleared at my bank. Once the funds have cleared, the car is free to be taken or it may remain in it's current location for no more than three weeks without prior written agreement. I am sensitive to the issues associated with shippers.
Once the E-bay sale has completed, there is a $500 non-refundable deposit required within 24 hours. Only the deposit may be paid through paypal. The balance of the amount due is due within 4 business days of the close of the E-bay sale (although the option indicates three days).
The car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to cancel the advertisement at anytime.
Thank you for looking and please have a great day.
