1966 Ford F-250 Camper Special Additional Info:
1966 Ford F-250 Camper Special. Original 352 ci Big Block V8 Gasoline Engine. Automatic Transmission. RWD.
This was my grandpa's, and dad's, 1966 Ford F250 Camper Special, which I rescued last fall after 19 years of it sitting under the big overhead camper, which pretty much saved this truck. I will give you the straight scoop on its condition.
Is it completely original, except for the front bumper, rims, hubcaps, and maintenance components as listed below.
This great looking truck is in fantastic condition given it's age and circumstances. It is very drivable as it is, but will need ongoing TLC on little things to bring it back to as much of a level of restoration as you want to take it.
This truck runs great with the original 352 ci big block engine, automatic transmission, brass radiator, oil bath air cleaner and even the original windshield fluid bag.
Everything in the cab works except for the AM Radio. I have a saddle blanket seat cover over the original seat cover, which needs to have the fabric panels replaced, but the original Naugahyde is in great condition.
It was repainted in the mid-1980s, and the paint is in very good condition, but it is not perfect. The body is solid and in great shape, although it has one spot of cancer on the leading edge of the hood, and a couple small holes in the floorboards near the doors and kick panels. The storage box on the right side is solid and free of any cancer.
All hoses, belts, ignition wires, plugs, distributor, fuel pump, coil, and battery have been replaced. I replaced the mechanical points with an electrical points module replacement. I have had the transmission and rear differential, and wheel bearings serviced. The brakes are good. I replaced the 16.5 rims and biased ply tires with 16 inch rims and radials.
I have the original bumper which needs to be straightened, but it is much more substantial than the replacement one I put on.
This is a great runner and project for anyone who has the desire to turn heads as you go down the road.
Unfortunately my circumstances dictate that I have to let this great old truck go. It is full of great family memories.
