1966 Ford Mustang Additional Info:

This Mustang will go to the highest bidder, this is a true no reserve auction.

This Mustang is not complete and as such I listed it as a project. I purchased this mustang just as you see it. The previous owner tried replacing the quarter panel himself but lacked the skills to complete the job. The quarter panel was being replaced because of body damage and not rust. I placed it on jack stands in order to photograph the floor pans and frame rails. The tires do hold air.

Fact:

“A” code Ford Mustangs with a factory 4 speed option sell for more money. According to all of the value guides you can add 15-35% for a restored “A” code 4 speed Mustang over your base Mustang. But the cost to restore any mustang coupe, from a “T” code to the premium “A” code, is about the same due to the fact the cost of body work, paint and interior are virtually identical. So the question has to be asked; Why not start with a good rust free “A” code, factory 4 speed car to take advantage of the premium selling price?Color is also a factor and this one has the desirable factory candy apple red with a dark red interior! Such a sharp car when its done.

The Good:

Clean Colorado title in my hand

Built in San Jose, build date December 27, 1965.

Factory "A" code (Premium 4bbl)

Factory "5" code transmission (4 Speed top loader).

Very Rare and desirable color combination (Red on Red).

Very solid rust free floors, frame rails and engine bay sheet metal (correctly date coded to car).

5 Period correct, magnesium 5 spoke wheels (the 4 tires on the car hold air).

Nice dash pad.

Driver’s side sheet metal is original to car as well as the deck lid.

Door warranty tag is same as VIN under the hood proving the A code and four speed status as factory built.

The right rear replacement panel is a factory Mustang take off that is rust free, not an after-market piece.

Seat belts are in great shape with little to no fade with a build date of the 48th week of 1965 (correct for this car).

Original sun visors are in great shape.

The Bad (you know there has to be bad)

No engine or transmission is included with this listing. (An OPTION for an engine and transmission are explained below).

I will try to describe all that I can see and be brutally honest. I have been on my fair share of “Mustang goose chases” in the past 35 years so I want the new owner to know what he or she is getting and not be disappointed. I am not in this to make money as the starting bid clearly reflects and this WILL GO TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER! I need to make room for my 67 project (which is a complete and original S code).

The picture of the parts, photo 7, is all the parts I have so please look at them carefully. There are also boxes of small parts, nuts and bolts that are included but not photographed. When I bought this Mustang it did not have seats, the seats that are in the photo are seats that I had from prior projects. One of the front seats has a broken frame and will need to be welded. The back seat is complete and original factory upholstery removed from a 64,000 mile car.

The right front fender and door are not original to the car. The right front fender has rust in lower corner (it is straight and patch able). The right side door should be replaced due to someone in the past using epoxy around the window regulator mounting points; I think it was used to help line up the installation of the rear quarter and appears to be rust free. The rear tail light panel had some old body damage and the filler used has cracked off. The right “B” pillar has a small wave in it, you cant see it in the photos but mentioned for honesty. It is missing the rear valance and bumper. Hood has some creases that look as if someone tried to pull them out using the stud weld method (but it is fixable). There is no grill and missing other small components. I cannot furnish you with a list of all the missing parts because at this starting bid I am not going to do a complete inventory. I have not removed the radio but judging from the stereo that is there I am sure someone cut the radio hole to fit that stereo.

The right rear quarter panel is complete but I think the repair installation was improperly done. The previous owner tried welding the seam that was leaded from the factory so the weld is completely messed up. If I was keeping this car I would personally remove the entire rear quarter again and start over using the same quarter. I just like clean welds and I am somewhat of a perfectionist on restoring these old Mustangs.

Engine and Transmission Option

I do have but IS NOT INCLUDED with this eBay auction a 1966 C code 289, set up for a four speed including the original Ford aluminum bell housing that I will offer to the highest bidder for $400. I also have the correct top loader, coded HEH-BT, which is correct for this vehicle according to David Kee's web site and is the desirable close ratio 4 speed. I will offer the transmission with a used Hurst shifter to the winning bidder for $1,200. I didn’t post pictures of them in this listing because I don’t want someone to think they are included in this sale. I can also send you photos of the engine and transmission if requested. If you would rather call instead of emailing questions (that would be my preference) as question lead to more questions and emails are delayed on my end.

I would encourage you to inspect the vehicle or have someone inspect it for you. If you have any question please call me, Brian at 928_446_one_zero_eight_five.

I will not end this auction early and the car is not listed for sale anywhere else. It will go to the highest bidder! This car is being sold as is where is with no warranty. This vehicle will need to be towed or trailered due to a non-functioning brake system.

I will require a $300 non-refundable PayPal down payment within 24 hours of the auction ending. As soon as the auction ends I will email you and let you know you have won. The car will have to be picked up within 7 days of the end of the auction and must be paid in full, WITH U.S. CASH to me or at my bank (no checks, money orders or personal bank drafts). The vehicle will not be released to you or any third party unless it is paid in full. Please do not bid if you cant go through with the purchase.

I reserve the right to block bidders that are not honest with their bids or have less than 10 positive feedback's. If you have less than 10 positive feedback's please call me first to discuss (my number is listed above) and I will work with you.
