Ford F250
Sport Custom Pickup
One Owner from New!
Original 1970 Title
VIN F25YRJ54404
Back in June, 1971 I’d just finished my junior year of high school and was ready for adventure. My folks were really tired of the teasing I suffered on my three younger sisters, so there wasn’t much objection when my best friend suggested a summer-long road trip looping from Seattle to New York City and back. We loaded up his ’48 Chevy pickup with a homemade canopy and hit the road. Between uswe saved up$400 (gas was only 30 cents/gallon) and ended up having the best summer of our young lives! Why bring this up? Because very quickly we learned by necessity how to repair an older vehicle while far from home (by the end of those three months the engine had been rebuilt with used parts more than once using only vice grips and a couple screwdrivers). It taught me over my long career as a vintage vehicle collector to pass by the junk and only focus on quality; rigs that past owners cared about and maintained!
Take a good look at my photos. It’s easy to see the attentiveness and care taken by the single owner of this Ford really paid off! With a casual glance you might think this is just another ol’ truck. But, like I did, look a little closer and you’ll realize what a find this thing really is! The first hintcomes when you check for rust in the usual spots. For those not familiar with the Pacific Northwest, specifically western Washington, we get our share of misty rain, but hardly ever any snow. At the first sign of a falling flake everyone panics and stays home. Truth is, our winter roads are rarely salted, so you’ll see very few vehicles here with any serious rust problems! Climb over, under and around this rig - I know you’ll come up smiling! The only corrosion issues we’ve come across is minor surface rust on the underside (that I wouldn’t give much thought to or worry about) and some well-sealed along the underside of the hood and the upper fender edges, far out of sight.
Open the hood and you’re in for nice surprise. This F250 Sport Custom still hasan original, clean, great-running 360 V-8 engine. The second you fire it up, you’ll know it was built to last! I love the deep burble this strong motor makes. Almost sounds like a hot rod! The automatic transmission is good. We drained and serviced it to make the unit shift more smoothly. Adding a few more miles will complete that. The data plate mounted to the driver’s door shows there are 4.10 gears in the Dana 60.3D locker rear pumpkin. Having power steering also makes for easy turns! Here’s how the VIN code breaks down:
F25 – Ford F250 4x2, 6,100 GVW
Y - 360 Cu. In. 170 HP @ 4,100 RPM, 2-V engine
R - San Jose Assembly Plant
D - 3 Speed Warner Medium Duty T89C Auto Transmission
J54404 – Sequential serial number
The data plate shows the color as “Reef Aqua” and that the truck was delivered to the Seattle Sales District (#74) after its January, 1970 scheduled production date. It's been a local rig here in Seattle since new! There is no special order information so most likely it entered regular dealer inventory. My original 1970 title documents the truck was sold on August 14, 1970 to a local business here in the suburban city of Kent, WA.
Up in the cab you’ll find full factory instrumentation. My mechanic added the under-dash set because thecluster water temp. and alternator gauges weren’t functioning. Look at my pictures of the bench seat. It’s original and nearly perfect with the exception of a covered section on the driver’s side base. Remarkably, there's no real visible wear to the factory rubber mat covering the entire floor. Both sun visors are also original, as is the headliner. For nostalgia's sake, I’ve left the AM-only Ford Philco radio in place and it sounds great, with good reception!
Outside I know you’ll also be impressed by the classic “Reef Aqua” solid paint. It’s had one quality respray to that original color and is as clear and bright as the day this truck rolled off the San Jose Assembly line. I was told a camper protected the bed from wear for many years and it's in great shape as pictured. When the truck arrived at my warehouse last month we did a complete tune up, replaced the front bumper (chrome was peeling off), installed a new windshield and added new brake shoes on all four wheels (there’s a bit of brake pull to the right, but I hope to have that adjusted out when our mechanic’s back from vacation next week). I will also ask him to replace the heater core and hoses. Though I’ve always appreciated the look of stock 15-inch steel wheels with “dog dish” covers, these modern 16-inch Ford aluminum Mags are a great upgrade without detracting from the vintage look. They’re wrapped with Wild Country LT 285/75R16 Radials having at least 40-50 percent remaining tread all around.
Please feel free to email or contact me with any questions. My name is MARK Thompsonand my direct number is 206/914-1173. You’re welcome and encouraged to come by my Auburn, WA warehouse to inspect & drive the pickup. You might also make an offer before the end of the auction, as many of my vehicles sell to smart “early birds” that call and work out a deal prior to the auction’s end. I always reserve the right to sell during this period. Please remember this is a 46-year-old truck and is being sold "as-is". In it's day it was meant for utility use and doesn't handle/drive like a car or modern pickup. I've done my best to accurately describethe righere and inmy posted photos, but I'm sure you can and will find flaws.
A Few Additional Terms and Conditions:
A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction’s conclusion. The balance is due by cash or certified funds within seven business days unless prior arrangements have been made with me. Please remember you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold or then come inspect and test-drive the truck later as you’re more than welcome to do this before the auction ends.
If you decide to have thetruck shipped home, there are scores of vehicle transportcompanies to choose from. I send off vehicles regularly and suggest that you get a transport bid from Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS). They're EBay’s preferred transporter and will give you a fair quote. Call them directly at (888) 817-6203. Give the rep. my affiliate number (2362642) and they can pull up all our information for station-to-station or even door-to-door quotes.
As an alternative, you might also get bids from the U-Ship.com website. You’ll be able to choose a transport broker from multiple offers. The zip code for pick-up would be 98002 (Auburn, Washington). For Oregon and California buyers, I have a great transporter that regularly delivers for us up and down the I-5 Corridor. The shipping of the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER.
You’re welcome to keep the rig free of charge at my location for up to two weeks after the auction ends assuming full payment has been received. After that period storage is $20 per day.
