1971 Ford Torino 500 2-Door Hardtop Sedan Additional Info:
You are bidding on a 1971 Ford Torino 500 2-door coupe that has been turned into a Cobra clone with an original shaker hood and shaker and GT taillights plus badging. It is a virtually rust-free Georgia vehicle that has spent 15 years garaged in Michigan and Pennsylvania. We bought the vehicle when we resided in the Detroit suburbs from a Ford Service Engineer who made excellent upgrades on it during the 6 years he owned it; he bought it in Georgia from the third owner. I purchased it in 2007 and have only put 1000 miles on it; it has been adult owned and driven by myself and the past owner. The odometer reads 89200 miles at the current time and the speedo cable looks original. We had it moved to Pennsylvania in a covered transport in 2012. It has only been driven on summer days. As you can see by the photos, it is in exceptional condition. The body and trim is in great condition, chrome has no pitting, and there is no rust on the vehicle except for slight bubbling behind the rear tire on the driver side (see pictures). It was repainted in its lifetime once in the original Wimbleton White color and the paint is a bit thin, but still shines and looks good. It has the desirable magnum 500 15” wheels with staggered radials 225/70-15 in front and 275/60-15 in the rear that have a lot of tread on them
The interior is in excellent condition as well. Except for some splitting on the lower cushion driver side, the interior is perfect. Carpeting was replaced just before I bought the car and the dash pad is flawless. It has full gauges and a large tach on the steering column. There is a pioneer AM/FM stereo with cassette and equalizer. It is old school but works well. Heater requires a new heater core. There is also the original 1971 dealer installed CB radio/mike in the vehicle which is a cool retro touch.
It is a completely reliable and fun vehicle to drive. The powertrain is a 302 v8 with a nice high lift, high duration cam, high rise Edelbrock intake and Holley carb. The prior owner also upgraded it to an MSD electronic ignition. It has full length headers and new 2.5 inch stainless exhaust with Walker dyno max mufflers exiting behind the rear tires. It doesn't use any oil and has no mechanical noises or other issues. There is a small rear main seal drip, but that's it. It has a built C4 transmission with a 3000 rpm stall converter and a posi, 8” Ford axle with 4.11 gears. It sounds exceptional and is very driveable for street cruising. The reliability is excellent and it will run, cruise and drive in 95 degree weather without overheating or stumbling. The throttle response is perfect and it idles at 800 rpm with a nice lope and almost big block sound. The trans and gears really help the 302 get into it’s peak torque quickly and it allows the Torino to accelerate strongly. I took it to Milan dragway once and it ran low 14's at 95 mph which is very good for a small block.
The suspension is also in great condition. It has power brakes and steering, plus airshocks. There is absolutely no vibration, noises, clunks, or wander in the driving. It handles all types of roads and highways with no issue. The prior owner put a new driveshaft in the Torino and gas tank.
I’ve owned many old muscle cars from Boss 351's to 440 Coronet R/Ts' over the past 30 years. The Torino has been with us for 9 years and it is one of my favorites. It has great looks, power, comfort and reliability. You won’t be disappointed. I continually get comments from people at gas stations and thumbs up when we go for a cruise.
