1930 Ford Model A sedan Additional Info:
1930 Model A Ford Town Sedan, body by Murray. This Model A was owned by a member of our club. He had owned this car since 1964. He loved his Model A and spent his retirement years restoring and driving it. I purchased this car as a project to bring it back up to date. He passed away last year and had not been driving it for a year or so before that. I knew he had some trouble with the steering and the transmission and it was dirty from sitting for so long. But I enjoy working on the Model A's. I have five other Models A's. The car started right up with fresh gas and a battery charge. I set out driving it home and saw really how bad the sterring was, it had almost a half a round of play, I knew that had to be addressed. Then the car began belching water from the radiator cap. I pulled over, it wasnt hot, so I continued on home at a slower pace to keep it from blowing the water out. With further inspection the cause of the water blowing out was a cracked block. To solve that problem it now has a fresh rebuilt engine with all new babbit in the mains and rods, all new valve seats in the block, bored out to .125 with new snyders aluminum pistons. All new valves, guides, springs, and adjustable tappets. Both new timing gears. Engine runs great and strong. While the engine was out I went through the transmission, replacing the cluster gear, both sliding gears with better used Henry Ford gears that I had, also replaced all the bearings. The transmission sounds very good, and shifts easy and smooth. Also while the engine was out, I replaced the complete steering box and column with another that I had rebuilt with good Henry Ford parts, new spark and throttle rods and horn rod. It steers very nice and handles good. I have receipts from his purchases for parts that total over $7000.00. New upholstery kit was almost $2400.00 of that, replated bumpers were $753.82. You can look at the receipts for yourself to see what all he has spent and done to the car. All the glass is good with no cracks. All the lights work, horn Ahoogas, speedometer works but does read slower than you are going. Now I have had my fun of bringing it up to good driving shape. I have drove it around on some short trips to help break the engine in, but I know less than a hundred miles. It does run really good and free like us old timers say, "like it wants to go". It handles well with easy steering and the brakes are good old Model A brakes, they stop you but not power like our modern cars. Car is located in Greeneville TN. If you live close by come take a look and a test drive. Give me a call with any questions at 423-470-2489. I do have the car for sale locally, and reserve the right to end the auction if it sells locally. PLEASE ONLY BID ON THE CAR IF YOU CAN COME PICK IT UP AND BRING CASH. NO BANK TRANSFERS OR CHECKS. I like to do business the old fashion way, in person with the exchange of the money and a good old handshake. Thanks for looking at my auction. Joe.
