Up for auction is a genuine 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 SportsRoof that represents something becoming increasingly difficult to find in today’s collector-car market:

An unrestored, one-family-owned, numbers-matching survivor with only 49,000 original miles.

This Mustang has not been completely taken apart, restored, rebodied or turned into someone’s interpretation of what a 1969 Mach 1 should be.

⭐ DOCUMENTED GENUINE MACH 1

This isn’t a standard Mustang that was later converted into a Mach 1.

The included Deluxe Marti Report documents this car as a genuine 1969 Mustang Mach 1 2-Door SportsRoof, built at Ford’s San Jose assembly plant on April 23, 1969.

According to the Marti Report, it left the factory in the beautiful and distinctive Royal Maroon exterior color with a black knitted-vinyl Mach 1 high-back bucket-seat interior.

The combination is absolutely gorgeous and gives this Mustang a sophisticated appearance while retaining the unmistakable aggressive styling of a first-generation Mach 1.

⭐ FACTORY 351-4V MACH 1

This Mustang was born with Ford’s 351-4V Windsor V8 and FMX SelectShift automatic transmission.

Even better, this is represented as an all-numbers-matching car, making its originality particularly important.

The odometer shows approximately 49,000 miles, represented as original.

This Mustang runs and drives and can be enjoyed in its current survivor condition.

The lights and gauges are also working.

UPDATED IGNITION SYSTEM

There has been one practical update under the hood that I want to clearly disclose.

The car has an updated ignition/distributor system. Because of the clearance created by the updated distributor setup, the original factory air cleaner will not fit properly in its current configuration.

For that reason, a smaller air cleaner is presently installed, as shown in the photographs.

THE ORIGINAL FACTORY AIR CLEANER HAS BEEN SAVED AND IS INCLUDED WITH THE CAR.

This is important because the original component was not discarded. It stays with the Mustang and will go to the next owner.

⭐ LOADED WITH DESIRABLE FACTORY OPTIONS

This was not a bare-bones Mach 1.

The Deluxe Marti Report documents an impressive factory equipment list, including:

This is where I believe this Mustang becomes especially interesting.

THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN RESTORED.

The body remains in excellent original overall condition for its age.

Every body panel is represented as original, along with the car’s original sheet metal.

The car has never been involved in an accident.

Rather than looking at a Mustang that has been disassembled, repaired and reconstructed over the years, you are looking at an honest survivor that still shows you what you’re actually buying.

There are imperfections from age, as should be expected from a 57-year-old unrestored automobile, and I encourage bidders to look carefully at all of the photographs.

I’m not trying to represent this as a concours-restored show car.

It isn’t—and that’s part of what makes it special.

⭐ ORIGINAL INTERIOR

The black Mach 1 interior is also original and unrestored.

It retains the classic high-back bucket seats, woodgrain trim, center console, original-style steering wheel and unmistakable late-1960s Mustang cockpit.

There is visible age and wear, including wear/repair to the driver’s seat, which can be seen in the photographs.

Again, nothing is being hidden.

For me, that originality tells the story of the car.

⭐ ORIGINAL GLASS

The glass is represented as original to the car and remains in very good condition.

There are no cracks in the glass.

Details such as original glass become increasingly meaningful on an unrestored survivor because they further illustrate how much of the automobile has remained intact over the decades.

⭐ ORIGINAL UNDERCARRIAGE

The underside is also original and unrestored.

Importantly, I want to be completely transparent:

THERE IS SOME RUST DEVELOPING IN THE FLOOR AREAS.

Please look closely at the photographs provided.

I would much rather show potential buyers exactly what is there than cover it with undercoating or try to make an unrestored car look like something it isn’t.

That does not mean this car is being represented as a $100,000 automobile in its present condition. It simply demonstrates the significant collector market that exists for properly restored, highly desirable examples.

This is an honest old Mustang with imperfections, character and history.
