I’ve been debating for months whether I want to post this for sale or not, I guess results will determine sale. It would hurt to see it go but I have 2 other trucks that need attention. Reserve is set at a realistic value.
Overall very clean and well cared for 2WD truck with a clean title and a great running 390FE ready for a new home. Marti Report (photos) shows It was a Salt Lake City DSO truck and Salt Lake is where it lives today coming up on 50 years later. This truck was built on 5/10/76 at the Kansas City plant and was sent to Utah where It was sold new on 5/26/76 at Marion Willey & Son Ford in Bountiful Utah, located at 1800 S Main St where a Ford dealer still sits to this day, under a different name. It is 1 of 122 with this paint and trim code.
It’s believed to be a respray paint of the original colors of Ford’s Mecca Gold and Wimbledon White. I was told by previous owner paint work was possibly done in the 90’s but there’s no documentation. Paint is in great shape overall but shows its age for roughly a 30 year old paint job. Specifically fading areas on the hood, some clear coat peeling on the roof top.
I believe the 390FE engine had some work done to it probably around the same time as the paint although there is no documentation. The valves appear in good shape under both valve covers (photos). And when a borescope camera is stuck down the spark plug holes the cylinder walls and piston heads look like they’re in good shape. Good compression on all cylinders, all reading ~130psi. The truck starts right up every time even after sitting for 3 months while waiting for snow and road salt to dissipate. It drives great at high altitudes such as Alta ski resort at 8,530ft. No power issues on the drive up the canyon. I got it up to 75mph with no issues. Dash reads just over 8,200 miles, may have rolled over, can not confirm actual mileage. I believe I am 3rd owner.
Overall rust free and very straight frame, rear axle and front I beam suspension components. The underbody has minor surface rust in typical places for these dentside trucks (photos) but looks amazing for its age. A dry ice blasting would easily take away any surface rust.
The interior is very clean, floors appear solid all around from what I can tell, I haven’t untied the seat cover since I’ve owned the truck but from what I can tell the bench seat is in great shape, it doesn’t feel like there’s any foam missing when I run my hand over the seat cover other than one spot on the drivers side bottom. It is the original Tan vinyl seat.
The side windows appear to be original glass with Carlite and ‘SuperCab’ logos embedded. Wired for subs with power switch for sub.
Doors close and open great,
Fuel gauge works, Speedo works, tachometer works, lights work, windshield wipers work. Locks work. Factory A/C truck but needs attention.
Truck comes with ignition key and door key.
New power steering pump + Belt installed summer of 2025, new front disk brakes installed spring of 2025. New distributor, spark plugs and plug wires summer 2025. New valve cover gaskets summer 2025. New battery 2025.
I may be forgetting some things.
Cons:
Paint isn’t perfect, hood has some light fading but natural look to it, clear coat is peeling from a small area on top of the roof. Some rust spots show above the rear window/door
Crack in the windshield about 12” long in front of driver view.
Tires are going on 10 years old.
16.5” wheels make tire choice somewhat difficult
No key for the bedside box
Missing screws here and there, such as one in each tail light, minor things.
There are interior rattles while driving strictly coming from loose door panels.
Passenger side cab corner is rusted as seen in photos.
Drip rails could use a little attention but I don’t think they’re fully gone, what you see in photos is mostly paint peeling.
Bed liner is peeling (photos)
I don’t have lug nut socket for spikes.
Rear sliding window needs attention
Aux fuel tank needs attention, main tank works great.
Choke adjustment.
I may be forgetting some minor things.
