The introduction of the Mustang created a new class of automobiles known as pony cars. The Mustang's styling, with its long hood and short deck, proved wildly popular and inspired a host of competition. The cabin features front bucket seats, and a rear bench seat trimmed in white vinyl with Pony accents. It features a white dashboard which has an AM radio, and the Mustang retains its factory-equipped air conditioning unit. The instrumentation consists of a 120-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer indicates 61,118 miles. The Mustang was finished at the factory in Poppy Red (3) and was refinished sometime before our consignor purchased in 2017. The chrome bumpers are in good condition all the way around and the 289 badging is also present. Magnum 500 replica wheels are wrapped in 205/60R15 Hankook tires (DOT 2018). The 289ci V8 was factory rated at 200 horsepower and has a Holley 500CFM 2-barrel carburetor. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a C4 three-speed automatic transmission and a rear axle with 2.80:1 gears. The Mustang is equipped with power steering and front disc brakes and rear drums.
