Original Sportsroof/fastback, not a Mach 1, or Boss 302. Grabber Blue is the original color and a 302 2v/3 speed manual is what it came with according to the Marti Report. (A reproduction door tag was also ordered and will go with the car). Clutch pedal assembly is still present under the dash. Spent most of its life, 1973-2014 in Texas. Was restored around 2010. At that time, it was a great car, lot of effort into the restore, but got hit by debris from a nearby tornado in 2015 and PO let it sit outside.
The underside is fantastic, the floors, subframe, boxes, everything is rock solid. Unfortunately, bubbling paint has started in various panels. I tried to get pictures of everything. The tornado threw a piece of metal at the driver fender and door. I believe the fender is original so I think it would be worth it to have a good shop repair them.
This past year I worked on mechanicals. The engine that was installed in Texas is a 1980 302 with an AOD automatic. I installed an 1968 J code 4bbl intake and an autolite 4100 carb. New oil pan, pickup tube, gaskets. New timing cover, water pump, and alternater. Runs great and starts with a couple pumps. AOD serviced and adjusted with pressure gauge, shifts nicely and you can cruise at highway speeds.
Along with engine and transmission, I worked underneath it this summer and repaired and reinforced the rear shock mounts, new leaf springs and u bolts. Ford 9 inch traction lock rearend was serviced. Exhaust was cleaned up, new H pipe, two catalytic converters and magnaflow stainless steel mufflers.
All the wiring was cut up and beyond repair, so I have an unopened American Autowire full body harness ready to install. Engine starts and runs from a remote switch under the hood. What is left of the original harness is included.
New master cylinder. Power disc on front. Steering column has been rebuilt with a new bearing and turn signal switch. New CJ leather steering wheel added with horn button new in box.
New gas tank.
Pictured are all the extra pieces I have. I’ve been collecting parts for about a year now. I have some extra Ridetech pieces that come from PO, not sure it’s all there.
I purchased new Magnum 500 wheels, lugs, and center caps from CJPonyParts and new BFGs from Discount tire.
Reason for selling: I love this year Mustang, but I don’t have the time or space to finish it. Life is getting busy with a kiddo and my priorities have shifted.
