1955 Ford Fairlane Additional Info:

For sale in Chula Vista, a San Diego suburb. Come see it in person, or contact me for a live walk around tour. I will drive it onto a delivery truck for you after the check clears. Unlike the guy who sold it to me 5 years ago, I will be honest and tell you EVERYTHING I know about the car....NO SURPRISES.This is the "Other '55". Don't get me wrong, I love love love '55 Chevys, but every car show or cruise there are 5 or 6 of them, and hardly EVER any other '55 offering. Well here you go!1955 Ford Fairlane "Club Sedan", 2-door post. Clean CA title. An older restomod with all the right stuff: 80's vintage 302, C6 auto trans, power front disc brakes, power steering, new dual exhaust, new aluminum radiator. Car was originally a 272 Y-block, two-tone red and white; I doubt the paint is original, although the red is faded to a maroon, so maybe? No idea how many miles the drivetrain has on it, probably a lot; although it runs and drives just fine, the engine is old and tired and leaks from rear seal. Tranny shifts good, but also leaks a little out the front. Brakes good, new front hoses, rear drums recently refurbished new everything. The axle is a 2.75 ratio, pretty sure it's from a 70's Granada.Rear leaf springs probably need to be re-curved; the shackles have been reversed, which added about 4" to ride height, and then 2" lowering blocks brought it back to normal ride height....all done before I bought it.When I got it the main wiring harness had been cut clean! So I had to rewire ignition and exterior lights myself, not a pro job, but functional - all Exterior Lights work, including turn signal; interior lighting still needs work. All glass is good, all the stainless trim is there, but missing some/most of the emblems. New front bumper, new shocks all four corners. Driver's seat belt only, I have a second one just never installed it. Older Holley 600cfm Vacuum Secondary carb, rebuilt it myself, runs good no leaks, manual choke linkage is a little "hinky", but car has the original choke knob and cable. It has the cool mid-50's "glass house" speedo cluster, and all original knobs.Speedometer cable not hooked up, so the mileage is not accurate. Interior redone long before I bought it, so-so dash paint job, looks great from 10 feet away. White vinyl seats; probably seemed like a good idea in hot summer Kansas (where this car came from), but it gets dirty very easily. Good headliner.Floorpan has some rust through holes that were not correctly patched. The frame itself has typical surface rust but no significant rust-through that I can see. I'm sure the lower panels have various repair/mud, but I haven't taken the paint down to see exactly where or how much (see pic of bubbling paint on passenger door lower). The rear bumper "sill" (panel below the gas tank filler) is badly rusted and will need to be replaced or just cut off the ugly rusted part and nobody will be the wiser. Driver's rear wheel well/lower quarter is rusted (see pic), they make a patch panel for that. Some parts of interior fenders, like behind the headlight buckets, have some rust, but it's solidly holding together and the outer skin is sound and looks good.

  • Steering: NOTE, the steering wheel shaft will pull out of the Power Steering box. The box is a Borgeson unit, I don't know if FOrd used these as OEM or if it's an aftermarket addition. The steering shaft attaches to the box input shaft with a coupler, and I assume the locking screw just needs to be tightened, or maybe repaired, I haven't looked at it closely....it can be driven around no problem, you just have to remember to NOT PULL OUT ON THE STEERING WHEEL. The wheel is original, white, good shape still glossy and only a couple cracks, but the horn ring broke right at the horn button; I tried to repair with JB Weld, put it didn't take...still have the piece, maybe you can fix it? I just covered the breaks on the horn button with silver tape, not noticeable unless you look close.
Many spare parts go with the car, too numerous to mention. If shipping it to you I will pack them in the trunk. This car would be a great rat rod, take the paint down to bare metal then clear coat it, swap the bench for some bomber seats.... If it doesn't sell, I just might.... but the wife will hate it!If you come look at it, and are seriously interested, I'll tell you EVERYTHING I KNOW about it, all the goods and bads, all honest and up front, nothing to hide. Yes we can test drive it. I've loved this car, learned a lot from it, but I'm just in over my head on it, only selling it to fund my 1974 Maverick restomod.

I got some pics of the inside of the trunk; as you can see, sheet metal all good, a little dirty but no visible rust like you might expect in this area.
