Post-World War II pickup trucks are getting harder to find. Finished in red, this example's paint and trim are in overall very good order. The bodywork is straight and solid. Up front is a chrome bumper. The cargo bed is in satisfactory condition. We are selling this truck for the estate. Mr. Throckmorton had loving cars for this truck since 2008 (15 years). It was always stored indoors and used sparingly.
This truck rolls on older Sentry Hiway tires, size 7.50-16 in front and Super Hiway II tires, size 7.50-16 in back. The spare tire and wheel are a Goodyear Deluxe tire, size 6.50-16. There's a bed-mounted spare tire on the driver's side.
Under the hood is a 239 CID Flathead, 24-stud V-8 engine. It is backed by a three-speed manual transmission.
Inside, the gray bench seat is in satisfactory order. There are floor mats, no carpet. The headliner is in mediocre condition. A two-spoke black steering wheel frames the red metal dashboard, with a full set of ancillary gauges. The gray inner door lines echo the condition of the bench seat. The fuel, temp, and AMP gauges and speedo/Odo and wipers are in inop.
rom 1947 to 1952, Ford assembled F-Series trucks at sixteen different facilities across North America. In Canada, the model line was also marketed through Lincoln-Mercury as the Mercury M-Series to expand dealership coverage in rural areas. This generation of F-Series pickup trucks is the sole generation to entirely Flathead engines (inline-sixes and V-8s).
The 1947 Ford line was similar to the short-lived 1946 models. Visual differences included the removal of the red accents from the grill and the two small lights located just above it. Ford began titling 1947s in February 1947. For the first few weeks, the 1947 model was identical to the 1946. Ford then restyled the body slightly first by moving the parking lights from above the grill to below each headlight. Exterior moldings were changed from grooved to a smooth design. A new hood ornament with a blue plastic insert was installed. A new hubcap design became available in March.
Competition to this Ford in 1947 included Chevrolet's 3100, Dodge's W-series and GMC's pickup.
