Model DescriptionAlso known as the "Feature Car," "Limited Edition," or "Summer Special," the Summer Edition was the special edition Mustang trim for the 1992 model year. It's also known as a 1992 due to its mid-year release.
This car was essentially a follow-up to the 7-Up Mustang from two years prior. It included the same white leather interior with black contrast stitching and white power convertible top.
1992 Ford Mustang Summer Special Vibrant RedThe pearlescent white wheels and white top, along with the Vibrant Red paint, make the Summer Edition really stand out.
For the Summer Edition, however, all examples were convertibles and the trunk's exterior luggage rack was replaced with a unique decklid spoiler. It also got some 16-inch Opal Pearlescent white wheels that really stand out.
The Summer Edition also featured body-colored components including the side mirrors, door and window trim, rear quarter panel molding, and windshield trim.
1992 Ford Mustang Limited Edition InteriorThough the white leather interior must be tough to keep clean, many gorgeous examples are still available today.
Technically referred to as the 1992 Vibrant Red Mustang LX 5.0 Limited Edition Convertible, the Summer Edition featured the 302 H.O. V8 engine with 225 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. Drivers could select either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.
It's said that only between 2,019 and 3,333 (2,193 being the most common attributed production run) of these models were produced, making them a sought-after trim package for Fox Body enthusiasts.
As a side note, this Ford Mustang is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand-pick each car after careful inspection. ExteriorThe Red exterior is in excellent driver condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has a good gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. The convertible top is in great condition with no rips or holes. The white pony wheels, which are correct for a Summer Edition, are in excellent condition with no curb rash. The tires have plenty of tread left and are sized 225/55R16. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There are some tiny imperfections that were too faint to show up in the pictures, but nothing that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away. This Mustang has no rust issues. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car, it is very clean underneath. We have included specific photos of the rear spring mounts, rockers, lower quarter panels, and the area's most prone to rust to show how nice this car looks.
InteriorThe white interior in this Mustang is in good condition. The gauge faces are crisp and clean and the lenses are crystal clear. The door panels are in excellent shape and the door pulls are solid and intact. The dash and console are in great condition with no cracks, fading, or sun damage. The car still has its original radio. Most importantly, the dash has never bene cut or modified for an aftermarket installation. The seat look in person as they do in the photos with some wear on in the typical are on the bolster where the driver gets in and out and a stain visible in the photos on the rear seat. The carpet is also in good condition with some wear including a spot in the driver's footwell. This Mustang has never been smoked in; there are no burn marks and no aroma of cigarettes.
The truck is clean, nicely detailed, and includes the original the jack and jack handle. The original space saver spare is still with the car.
MechanicalThis Mustang seems to be in very good mechanical condition. The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles smoothly. It drives great and feels nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video in this ad one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations or strange noises and the car performs quite well overall. The brakes do not pull to one side or the other. The transmission shifts well throughout the power band. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving the car. The car runs cool and does not overheat. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, and correct as one can see in the photos.
The horn works as do all the exterior lights, wipers, and power windows; even the glove box light works. All of the gauges work. The blower for the heater and a/c works on all speeds. The air conditioning itself works and blows cold. One can observe the a/c compressor clicking on and engaging properly in the video. There are no "check engine" or other warning lights that stay on with the exception of the notorious air bag light. The power convertible top also works well with no effort or binding in the mechanism. The complete operation of the top going up and down can be view in the video. As stated above, the blower works on all speeds, but we can only get air to blow out of the defrost vents. The door locks do not operate properly, the power mirrors do not work, and the car has a transmission fluid leak. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the top down on a beautiful day.
Overall ConditionOverall, this 1992 Mustang LX Summer Edition is in great driver condition. The rare Summer Edition package, beautiful original color combination, and the excellent overall condition make this car especially important and hard to duplicate. It is very hard to find a Mustang LX from this era that is still in great original condition as most were used and abused. This Mustang always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. The prices of Fox body Mustangs increased considerably over the past several years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson stars of the future. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
