1965 Ford Fairlane 500, Beautiful! 392ci, AOD, A/C, Sale/Trade Additional Info:
All vehicle trades considered, including classics and performance. I can assist with financing and transport as needed.
This 1965 Ford Fairlane 500 is the total package. It has gorgeous paint on a nice straight body. A 460hp stroker motor from Smeding Performance with a 4-speed overdrive transmission. A very handsome interior that includes cold air conditioning. All this and much more, with a sleeper flair that really looks great.
This project started with a solid car that was free of any significant rust issues. Note the original floor pans along with added subframe connectors for extra strength. The body received a show quality two-stage paint job with a deep, dark green that looks fantastic! All the chrome and stainless is new as well, creating a great contrast. Note in the pictures the front bumper looks tipped; that is an illusion from the perfect reflection of the adjacent building. The basic hubcaps on the black steel wheels are a subtle touch, while the “289” badges will throw people off.
The drivetrain has an engine from Smeding Performance based on a stroked 351W that displacing 392 cubic inches. This assembly is rated at 460hp and uses a load of quality parts starting with a Ford SVO Sportsman II block. The rotating assembly uses a nodular iron crankshaft, 4130 forged I-beam rods, hypereutectic pistons, and low-friction moly rings. With 9.8:1 compression and a hydraulic roller camshaft, this is a reliable street assembly that doesn’t need any special fuel / oil additives or valve lash adjustments. The aluminum cylinder heads are modified Edelbrock Performer RPM pieces with 2.02/1.60 valves. The intake is an Edelbrock RPM Air Gap topped with an Edelbrock Performer carburetor. There is also an MSD distributor, large aluminum radiator, and headers feeding a dual exhaust.
Power delivery is through an Ford 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission with a Moroso trans cooler and Hurst V-Matic 2 shifter with line lock. Out back is a Moser 9-inch Musclepak limited slip rear end with 31-spline axles. Other mechanical details include power rack and pinion steering, front disc brakes, and CalTracs traction bars. Also the battery has been relocated to the trunk.
The interior was also redone and has the classy look you’d expect from a Fairlane 500. The seats, carpet, door panels, and weatherstripping are all new. The headliner and dash look great too. There is an aftermarket Walnut steering wheel and a modern radio with a retro look. A tachometer has been mounted to the steering column while a trio of Stewart Warner gauges resides under the dash. The heater, defroster, horn, and parking brake all work properly. And of course there is the fully functional underdash air conditioning!
There is a lot to like here both visually and mechanically. And this is a car you don’t see very often, especially with this level of build. Whether you’re a die-hard Blue Oval fanatic or just enjoy fun classic cars, this one is worth a look.
