Awesome 1955 Thunderbird Convertible (Hard Top Included) with 312 Cu. In. Engine and Automatic Transmission
My friend owns this incredible car and he has asked me to sell it for him. I know the car personally and watched the restoration alone its entire way. I can say the owner spared no expense in restoring the car, it is sweet, drives and handles well and is described below correctly.
This cool 1955 Iconic Thunderbird was the first year Ford produced Thunderbirds. It was designed to complete with the then, 2-year-old Chevy Corvett, the rest is history, the thunderbird became an American iconic sports car for the rich and famous.
This car underwent its restoration about 6 years ago and took well over two years to complete. The car was disassembled and all parts were bead blasted. There was no rust in any of the body or floor panels, doors, trunk lid or hood.
The body is very straight and all panels, doors, fenders and hood align well with straight lines and even gaps.
The car was primed with an epoxy sealer and primer and the beautiful red 2 stage base coat/clear coat paint applied. All door jambs and under surfaces of the trunk lid, hood and dash were all painted with the same 2 stage system. The paint was wet sanded and buffed to a high finish.
There is a perfect hardtop that goes with the car, it too has been painted with the 2-stage paint system, has new opera windows, rear glass, weather-stripping and a new white era-correct headliner. The car does come with a soft top.
The interior was completely redone with a new absolutely era correct factory Red and White Leather interior which includes 80/20 loop pile custom Red carpet, Red and White Leather seats, Leather door panels, deck padding, new leather dash pad, kick panels and all new weather-stripping. The car has power windows, power seat, all new chrome trims and insignias, new steering column, new instrument panel and gauges, floor shifter and pedals. All new switches, wiring harnesses, controls and lights.
The car has all new exterior chrome, including bumpers, grill light trims, insignias, door handles window trim. Every item, feature, trim and part was restored or replaced with high quality replacement parts or has been re-plated.
The motor in the car is a fresh built 1957 312 cu in power plant with a correct 1957 ford automatic floor shifter and transmission. It has a newEdelbrockCarburetor, new era correct brake booster, new era correct power steering pump and slave pistons, with Factory AC inside and a new style compressor under the hood. The engine, exhaust and engine compartment are all original type and the engine compartment is extremely clean and highly detailed.
This car runs very strong but drives and handles great, the cooling system keeps the car at the correct temperature and the oil pressure is great.
The car is sitting on a perfect set of 15” American racing aluminum wheels TA radial tires. The original set of wheel, hubcaps and wide white wall tires are included with the car along with the Fender Skirts that are painted the same color as the car.
The car has the original floor shifter and all gauges, lights, wipers, heater, Air Conditioner, after-market radio, speedometer, clock, Tachometer all work flawlessly with the exception of the gas gauge not reading correctly. An additional set of gauges were added to give accurate information on oil pressure and water temperature in case a light fails.
I have this car in my shop in Vidalia, I have driven it several times and without a doubt it is one sweet driver and a very high quality Gen one T bird. "Daddy will want to take this T Bird away"
Finally, I am offering a Baby here that has been taken very good care of all of its life and has been spoiled rotten and not wanted for anything. Since its restoration the car has been kept in a climate-controlled garage and has not been driven in the rain (or snow here in southern Georgia) since the restoration.
