THIS CAR SPENT THE LATE 70S PART OF ITS LIFE IN THE THOUSAND OAKS, CALIFORINA AREA JUST A FEW MILES FROM LOS ANGELES WITH THE FIRST KNOWN OWNER. HE HAD THE CAR CONVERTED INTO A GT350 CLONE AROUND 1979 ( HAVE PAPERWORK SHOWING THIS AND POLAROIDS FROM THE 80S OF THE CAR ) JUST A YEAR BEFORE CARROLL SHELBY HAD STARTED BUILDING THE CONTINUATION 1966 GT350 CONVERTIBLES WITH BEVERLY HILLS MUSTANG, GOOGLE CONTINUATION GT350 CONVERTIBLE IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THEM. THIS IS WHERE THE STORY GETS UNVERIFIABLE, THE GENTLEMAN WAS INVOLVED WITH THE MUSTANG CLUB AND WITH CARROLL SHELBY WHO MAY OR MAY HAVE NOT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE PROCESS OF MAKING THE CAR INTO A GT350 CLONE. THE SON OF THE LAST LATE OWNER TOLD ME HIS DAD HAD A MAGAZINE ARTICLE ABOUT THE CAR STATING THIS BUT HE COULD NOT LOCATE IT. IM NOT SURE HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE CLONING GT350 CONVERTIBLES BACK THEN BUT THIS KINDA SEEMS WEIRD WITH IT BEING DONE A YEAR BEFORE THE CONTINUATION CARS AND IN THE SAME AREA, MAYBE A DRY RUN FOR MR SHELBY? I MEAN WHO WAS DOING GT350R FRONT ENDS BACK IN 79?
SO FAST FORWARD TO OCT 1982, A MAN FROM TEXAS BOUGHT THE CAR FROM THE OWNER IN CALIFORNIA FOR $7300!!!! LOOK AT THE PICTURES FOR THE CASHIER CHECK CUSTOMER COPYS. I DONT THINK A 65 MUSTANG WOULD BE SELLING FOR THAT AMOUNT BACK THEN UNLESS IT WAS A SPECIAL CAR. THE TEXAS MAN KEPT IT TILL AROUND 1985 WHEN THE 3RD KNOW OWNER BOUGHT IT AND HIM AND HIS FAMILY HAD OWNED SINCE. THE CAR WAS SLIGHTLY DAMAGED IN THE 80S AND YOU CAN SEE THAT IN THE PICTURE OF THE POLAROIDS. THE 3RD OWNER TRIED STRIPPING THE PAINT IN THE 90S TO START A RESTORATION BUT END UP BUYING ANOTHER SPORTS CAR AND LOST INTEREST IN THE MUSTANG SO IT SAT THE WAY YOU SEE IT NOW, UNTILL HE PASSED AND HIS SON SOLD IT TO US. WHETHER OR NOT CARROLL SHELBY HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS CAR IS UP TO YOU TO DECIDE OR INVESTIGATE.NOW, WITH THAT STORY OUT OF THE WAY I WILL SAY THIS CAR STARTED LIFE AS A VERY COOL MUSTANG EVEN BEFORE BEING TURNED INTO A GT350. 4 SPEED MANUALSAN JOSE BUILT C CODE CAR WITH WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE THE ORIGINAL BORN WITH 289-2V AND T10 4SPD
TRANSMISSION. THE 289 BLOCK HAS A C5AE-6015E CASTING NUMBER WITH A CASTING DATE OF 4 K 1 2 OCTOBER 12TH 1964 AND THE T10 HAS A DATE ON THE TAIL HOUSING OF K 6 64 OCTOBER 6TH 1964.BOTH THE ENGINE AND TRANS WERE BUILT THE MONTH BEFORE THE PRODUCTION DATE OF THE CAR ON THE 25TH OF NOVEMBER 1964.
HAVE NOT TRIED TO START TO CAR. THE TRANSMISSION, CLUTCH AND DRIVESHAFT ARE NOT INSTALLED IN THE CAR. THE TRANS WAS TAKEN OUT TO BE REBUILT AS PER THE PREVIOUS OWNERS SON AND NEVER REINSTALLED. ALL PARTS ARE INCLUDED.
HAS QUARTER SIZE RUST HOLE ON THE BOTTOM OF BOTH DOORS AND A DIME SIZE HOLE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE DRIVERS SIDE QUARTER PANEL. THE TOP HAD BEEN RIPPED FOR SOME TIME ALLOWING WATER TO POOL INTO THE TRUNK CAUSING RUSTSO WILL NEED ATTENTION TO THE TRUNK PAN. OTHER THEN THAT THE BODY IS EXTREMLY STRAIGHT. UNDERSIDE LOOKS TO BE IN GOOD SHAPE ALSO.
THIS IS A COMPLETE CAR WITH NOTHING MISSING, LOOK AT PICS FOR THE PARTS. IT HAS A GT350 HOOD, SIDE SCOOPS ( REMOVED AND INCLUDED ), 14 INCH SHELBY 10 SPOKE WHEELSAND A CUSTOM MOLDED R FRONT END.THE INSIDE HAS A CUSTOM? SHELBY STEERING WHEEL, SHIFTER AND SHELBY TACH MOUNTED TO THE DASH. ALSO HAS A ROLL BAR. INTERIOR IS COMPLETE AND INCLUDES A SET OF PONY DOOR PANELS.
EITHER WAY, IF YOU WANT TO BELIEVE MR SHELBY HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THIS CAR AND RESTORE BACK AS A CLONE GT350 OR TAKE IT BACK TO THE WAY IT LEFT THE FACTORY WITH THAT BEAUTIFUL RANGOON RED PAINT AND WHITE BUCKET SEATS YOU CANT GO WRONG. NOT TO MENTION ITS A MATCHING NUMBERS C CODE CAR.
