1967 Ford Mustang GT500E
"Eleanor" is a customized 1971 Ford Mustang Sportsroof (redressed as 1973 that features in independent filmmaker H.B. "Toby" Halicki's 1974 film Gone in 60 Seconds. "Eleanor" is the only Ford Mustang in history to receive star title credit in a movie. In the 2000 remake after the rights were licensed to Disney, a 1967 Mustang Fastback was customized and used.
The last car to be stolen in the 2000 remake of Gone in 60 seconds was named "Eleanor". It was a 1967 Ford Mustang depicted as a GT500 Mustang in a modern Metallic Pepper Grey and with a customized body kit and styling. The design was created by Hot Rod illustrator Steve Stanford and made a reality by custom car designer Chip Foose. Due to the popularity of the movie, various companies were putting replica kits that could be added to original fastbacks from 1967. We give you this meticulously restored frame off car and kit, now presenting as the movie star Eleanor.
Exterior
The beneficiary of a full rotisserie restoration, complete with molded body parts from the original Chip Foose parts used on the movie car to replicate Eleanor, this car is now bathed in correct Peppercorn Gray. Starting at the bottom of the front body matching bumper, and racing up through the dual cowl bumps on the hood then jumping up on the roof, and continuing on the trunk lid, rear spoiler, rear panel, body matching rear bumper, and below, are dual wide black painted on racing stripes. The iconic hockey stick cove is a "vent" on the rear quarter and runs forward through each door. B pillar louvers are now smoothed over "vents", and integrated dual side pipes exit just before the rear wheel well. Sequential taillights are cool! The grille is a simple horizontal multi bar design, and the only galloping horses seen are now under the hood. This car has been mini tubbed and seen inside them are American Racing Eleanor wheels wrapped with GoodYear Eagle F1 tires. "Easy Money"
Interior
A swing of the doors and we are greeted by aesthetic simplicity with a stainless metal panel surrounded by black vinyl on the doors. A relocated window crank and door handle are noted. Front and center (actually drivers' side) is a wood Shelby GT 500 steering wheel attached to a Flaming River tilt steering column. This fronts a totally custom designed dash with white faced Phantom Autometer gauges in a cluster and a field of more brushed metal, and an Alpine CD Player with (2) 500 watt amps and GBL speakers. In front of the dash are (2) black leather Super Snake high back buckets that are very comfortable and pristine. Carpeting is nice and black with no fading or staining. A shout out to the trunk which has also been neatly lined with black carpet, the top of the stainless 20 gallon fuel cell, a battery holder, and a NOS tank. "I have discovered you have to work twice as hard if its honest"
Drivetrain
A new Dart engine block in 406 cubes stroker form, has all top of the line engine components. Airflow Research aluminum heads, MSD ignition, a Demon 850 double pumper carb, Hooker super compression headers, and a Tremec 5-speed manual transmission with a Hayes clutch and scatter shield. "I'm a little wired and I think I deserve a little appreciation."
Undercarriage
An amalgamation of high end parts mix together to have this car handle well, and cruise with ease. Total Control coil-overer front and rear suspension, power rack and pinion steering, a narrowed 9-inch Ford rear with an aluminum center section and 3.73 gears, and Detroit Locker 312 spline axles. We also see Bair 6 piston Shelby calipers on 14 inch drilled and slotted rotors fed fluid by all stainless steel lines. Wonderful!
Drive-Ability
Our resident muscle car test pilot got behind the wheel of this car and just had a big grin on his face upon returning from his test drive...Need I say more??
This total rebuild to replica of star status leaves us with a virtually new 1967 Mustang Eleanor GT500 E, that spits power, makes great noise, and provides creature comforts with a dollop of NoS just in case. Beautiful color, leather Super Snake seats, and high end build on the mill and it doesn't get any better than this kids.
