1963 Ford Galaxie 500 Additional Info:

1963 Ford Galaxie 500

The restomod is a relatively recent phenomenon in the collector-car world. As a counterpoint to the "survivor" craze, these new cars mix old and new technology to create the best of both worlds, matching classic styling with modern comfort, performance and reliability. From giant, retro-styled wheels to Singer's hand-built Porsches, enthusiasts are able to have their cake and eat it too.

For consignment right out of the 1963 way back machine the Ford Galaxie 500, but with some performance upgrades, some sexy wheels, two tone paint, and its ready to roll out of the halls and into your driveway...go for it.

Exterior
Named for the fascination with space back in 63, this Galaxie takes on a modern personality. It retains its original grille setup which like a shining star with its intricate grille and dual horizontal headlights and now painted bumper. It is now bathed in burgundy, as is the car from the belt line down. Some areas of this paint show crazing, and cracks. Also, very small areas of some bubbling can be noted. A contrasting white paint covers the hood, roof and trunk lid. Save for the window trim, drip moldings and door keyhole, chrome trimmings have been shaved. What remains is nicely preserved. On back jet engine-like chrome trimmed round taillights flank a rear panel that is just like the grille intricacy, and then below, another burgundy painted bumper. Quad chrome tipped exhaust peek out from under the painted bumper. Tinted windows add to the mystique, and 18-inch polished wheels looking much like a surfer's cross design with dish rim bolts attached to the flares are wrapped with low profile radials.

Interior
Pushing the button for the blackened door handle we are greeted with a black covered door panel with its original cranks and a large speaker embedded within the door panel. The vinyl is just a little loose here, but the panels still present well. Low back buckets in black and a rear bench make up the seating for the passengers. It appears the buckets are a bit newer and sport a different pattern that graces the rear which is assumed to be original. A boxed custom center console with black side carpeting and a black vinyl padded covered top houses a B&M shifter complete with mad skull gearshift topper. Also imbedded into the console are a trio of gauges, and a Pyramid DVD video player, as well as an inserted Panasonic AM/FM/CD player. On the futuristic dash we see the original gauge cluster with its shades of Buck Rogers design. This is now a white dash top, with red bezels a hint of black vinyl touches and the original horizontal stacked brick pattern machined into aluminum that stretches from door to door. All this futuristic amalgamation is fronted by a modern banjo style rally steering wheel. The stereo system continues to the restored black carpeted trunk, where we see more amplifiers, boosters and dual sub woofers blasting into a bass box neatly buttoned up in the trunk. Noted also on the rear deck are extra speakers for your auditory pleasure and excitement. Black carpet covers the floors, and a black headliner with just a bit of some surface mold is noted above.

Drivetrain
Rocketing forward through this Galaxie to the front of the car in particular the engine bay, we now see a 460ci v8 bathed with black paint, and highlighted with gold valve covers, a red distributor, and some snappy yellow spark wires. This mill is topped with a 4-barrel carburetor and has a C6 3-speed automatic transmission on the back. Power flows rearward to a Ford 9-inch rear with 3.00 gears. All is clean and good lookin in this engine bay...one could say "stellar?"!

Undercarriage
Nicely painted black undercarriage with slight underlying surface rust on various areas. We note some repairs to the frame in a few sections. The fuel tank appears newer, as is exhaust with its stainless mufflers and chromed dual tips on the rear. Independent coil springs for the front, and leaf springs for the rear. Disc brakes are upfront, and drums are on the rear.

Drive-Ability
The 460 cubes lit right up, and she pointed the hood at the test track where she sniffed out all the turns and twists, power sections, and cruised like a meteorite pummeling towards earth. All buttoned up on the performance end, coming to a halt back at the Classic Auto Mall intake area. She's a good driver and has a comfy interior with a stereo system that will have you rockin. A few items noticed during the test, the fuel gauge read empty, the horn is in op, the reverse lights are on in all gears, and the right front signal is out.

With its two-tone metallic paint, low profile tires and big 18-inch wheels, upgraded interior and big 460ci V8 now under the hood, it went from Galaxie to true Star! And it shines brightly in its resto-mod version.
