This is The Intimidator, a one-of-a-kind fully customized 1948 Ford F-1 with a build cost of over $200,000!

It has been a cover feature truck in Truckin’ Magazine, as well as a feature in multiple magazines, webpage articles, Goodguys Gazette, NSRA magazine, Elite Streets, and more!

It has won over 100 awards, been shown at some of the largest events in the country by invitation, and was the PPG Nationals display vehicle from winning best body and paint the year prior.

It won the prestigious SHOW PROMOTORS CHOICE award at the F-100 Nationals as well, which is quite an accomplishment.

The truck started with a round-table discussion amongst the industries best, sorting out details, parts and “who will do what” to get it to the finish line. Then, Eric Brockmeyer Design was tapped to do some incredible artist renderings of the truck so that everyone could “see” what it would become, even before a part was ordered! Incidentally, those renderings are included in the voluminous dossier of receipts, paperwork, and documentation on this build.

Chris Nash at Precision Rod & Customs in Sevierville, TN, constructed the frame for truck. It is based on the 48 rails, but has been completely reworked, boxed, stepped, and reinforced for the project.

A Scott’s Super-Slam Mustang II IFS system was installed, with custom upper and lower control arms, 2” dropped spindles, RIDE TECH SHOCKWAVES air springs, front sway bar, and a FORD rack & pinion steering rack with a ZOOPS power steering remote reservoir.

A narrowed FORD 9” rear end was tucked in back, with a MOSER 3.50 ring and pinion, MOSER Tru-Trac 28 Spline Axles, and a custom balanced driveshaft. It is all suspended by a heavy-duty four-link setup featuring a panhard bar and RIDE TECH SHOCKWAVES air springs.

A ROCK VALLEY 14 gallon fuel cell with high-flow performance pump completes the underside.

Wilwood polished disc brakes with polished calipers and 13” drilled and ball motors handle stopping duties, and the functional E-Brake lets you stay stopped when you need to.

To move that frame around, a set of custom-made SCHOTT PERFORMANCE wheels were ordered in show polished aluminum, size 18x8 up front, and 20x15 in the rear covered in 33x18x20 radials.

The frame and undercarriage still show clean and neat, although you will find a blemish or two from the truck being driven on the roads for a little over 1,000 miles. These are things like stone chips and small debris scuffs. You can tell from the photos provided that the chassis still shows incredibly well.

When it came to choosing power, FORD in a FORD was the only choice, so a brand-new motor was built just for this project. This task was assigned to Bob Meyers at Performance Auto Machine & Engines in Greenville, TN.

It started with a new 406ci block bored 4.390” and stroked to 3.980”. It is a 9.0:1 compression build that runs perfectly on 93 octane. It has all new internals. The BDS intake was fit with a BDS 8-71 blower with a pair of Quick Fuel Technologies SS Series 650 cfm carbs. The BDS bug catcher was custom finished inside to match the truck.

Sandersen ceramic coated headers feed into a custom fabricated exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers.

A Steve Long aluminum radiator with a 17” Cooling Components electric fan keeps things cool, and the FORD C-6 Transmission was built new for the truck with a 2,400rpm stall converter.

It starts, runs, drives, and performs wonderfully. I have personally driven it about 40 miles in a mix of freeway and in-town driving, and it is a quite mild-mannered machine until you want to make it do more.

Performance Dyno Services test results are included in the dossier that comes with the truck, and it shows 618 ft lbs tq @ 3700 RPM and 542rwhp @5500 RPM on 93 octane. That is PLENTY of power in such a lightweight pickup, and feels like a LOT more when you are behind the wheel.

It stays cool, is easy to steer and stop, and the self-leveling air-ride system makes maintaining the perfect ride height the trucks decision, not yours.

Inside, the award-winning interior is the result of allowing an unlimited budget to one of the industries best, Todd Kirk from Kirk’s Kustom Upholstery in Corryton, TN.

Nine hides of perforated Finess Hunter Green Leather wrap the custom-made seats with hand fabricated bases, as well as the door panels. The upholstered bolster envelopes the seats, and graphics were carefully applied to the Passion and Olive Green Suede headliner.

Emphatic Brocade II carpeting was custom laser cut and installed over layers of Dynamat.

All the same materials were used to completely cover the bed, which is accessed by a push-button power tonneau. The massive rear wheel tub dominates the center, and the bed itself is just as pretty as the interior, with exceptional fit and finish.

The 41 Ford dash from Bitchin’ Products was fit with a full compliment of AutoMeter Pro gauges to monitor vitals, and an iDidit tilt steering column is capped with a custom-made wheel from M&M Machine.

The smooth fiberglass console system flows from the dash to the rear cab and conceals the controls for the AutoLevel Air Ride controls, power windows, and power tonneau cover.

The interior is still in like new condition, and you won’t find a seam pull, tear, or mark anywhere on the inside.

Glass is all custom cut and perfect.

Seals are all as new in condition.

Everything inside works as it should.

Now for the big stuff!!! The body work and fabrication was handled by JR’s Rods and Customs in Marysville, TN. They completed a 4” chop, did the perfectly functioning suicide doors with hidden hinges, and worked to make the custom grille, modeled after the FORD INTERCEPTOR Concept car, fit perfectly into the rest of the design.

Doors close with a click, and don’t droop or mar the finish anywhere. Remote works both doors from up to 15 feet away, and releases them with ease. Interior has paddle releases under the dash on each side to open them, and there are safety pulls to bypass a dead battery situation.

The roof line was completely reshaped, the cowl vent filled, firewall smoothed, vent windows eliminated, door handles shaved, locks and side trim shaved, and then started on the hard stuff!

The entire front end and fenders are one piece of metal! The work is truly amazing. Fenders were completely reshaped front and rear, hood was shaved/boxed/braced for the blower scoop, running boards were redone to work with the smooth lines of the truck and widened fenders, and a lower air dam was added.

The grill is a one of a kind unit, and has JEEP LIBERTY lights with F-1 cut outs for the turn signals.

1966 Chevy bedsides were boxed and skinned, and the tail gate was molded in for smoothness. Inner floor was raised, and the custom rear tail assembly with LED lighting was hand fabricated as well.

The power tonneau from Pro’s Pick completes the prep work.

Brian Papa was brought in to shoot the color, and he nailed it with KIWI PEARL and KHAKI PEARL PPG color scheme, complete with hand applied striping with engine turned accents.

The finish is still stunning, and is ready to take more trophies at local, State, and Regional events anywhere in the Country. It has spent most of its life in trailers, show buildings, and climate-controlled garages, so it shows only a few minor blemishes as shown in the photos below.

This is probably one of the nicest custom trucks you will ever come across, and if you are a FORD fanatic, it is definitely one for you garage.

In December of 2018, the truck was professionally appraised by CAA for $118,000.00 usd. That complete appraisal accompanies the truck.

I strongly encourage you to come see, drive, and experience this truck in person. Whomever does will certainly buy it. There are NO excuses, NO apologies, and NO shortcomings with this pickup, and it is a world-class build touched by some of the most experienced custom car builders around.

That’s about all I can tell you, but I encourage questions and addition photo requests if it helps you make a decision.
