1966 Ford Thunderbird Town Landau Q-Code / 428ci in Diamond Blue Additional Info:
This 1966 Ford Thunderbird is a Q-code hardtop that is powered by a 428ci V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. Finished in Diamond Blue over a matching dark blue interior.
VIN:6Y87Q164491
This is a 3-owner car with the previous owner having owned it for 35 years. All three owners knew each other and so the history of the car is well known. Each owner kept the car indoors, with the first and previous owner, of 35 years, keeping it in a heated building.
The odometer shows 72k miles and, based on the ownership history and overall condition of the car, I have every reason to believe the mileage to be correct and original.
There is nothing old or tired about this car. The windows operate smoothly and quickly. The R-12 A/C blows cold and all three fan speeds work. There are no squeaks or rattles and the door shut smoothly.
This car starts, idles, shifts, steers, and stops great and just like you'd expect a 72k original mile and well maintained car would.
Additional equipment includes working R-12 air conditioning, power windows, power locks, and power drivers seat. The Town Landau package adds simulated wood interior trim and vinyl-clad roofline.
Finished from the factory in Diamond Blue (N), the car was painted Wimbledon White under prior ownership and refinished again, 35 years ago, by the previous owner in the correct Diamond Blue color. It was a quality job and the paint has help up extremely well. Exterior accents include a black vinyl roof with decorative S-bars and polished moldings.
Steel wheels are finished in black and are mounted with full covers and Lee whitewall tires. Fender skirts are equipped over the rear wheels.
The Blue (12) cabin is accented with polished trim throughout and Landau-specific simulated woodgrain veneers on the dash, door panels, center console, and steering wheel. Additional appointments include air conditioning, power-adjustable front seats, power windows, and power door locks.
A swing-away steering wheel fronts a “flight deck” instrument panel featuring a ribbon speedometer, spherical housings, and an overhead center console meant to evoke a jet plane’s cockpit.
The Q-code 428ci V8 was factory rated at 345 horsepower and 462 lb-ft of torque when new, and it sends power ls through a three-speed automatic transmission. Recent work performed at the local Ford dealership by the previous owner is said to include a freeze plug, accelerator pump, and brake line replacements accompanied by new coolant and brake fluid. My mechanics inspection of the car found no issues.
