The fourth generation Ford Fairlane was introduced in 1962. It bridged the gap between the compact Ford Falcon and the full-sized Galaxie. Like both the Galaxie and falcon, the Fairlane had a unibody frame but incorporated an unusual feature called torque boxes. These structures were designed to absorb road shock by moving slightly in the vertical plane. the standard engine was the 170 CID (2.8 L) six-cylinder. But as an option, Ford introduced its new Windsor V8, initially with a displacement of 221 CID (3.6 L). Eventually, in 1963 Ford upgraded the performance by offering the Challenger 289 CID engine. Any way you cut it, the Fairlane is an incredible machine and a valuable piece of American automotive history.
