1959 Ford Galaxie Sunliner Additional Info:
Up for your consideration is this NO RESERVE 1959 Ford Galaxie 500 Sunliner Convertible. This survivor Sunliner is ready to be restored and to show (if your willing to put all the chrome parts back on).
Before I give you a history of this car, let your computer or IPhone upload all the photos (32 in all), and you can see how nice this classic can be.
This Ford ragtop is all original from the body, down to the frame and engine. Born in Kansas City around July of 1958, this automobile went to Colorado and spent most of its life there. It attained quite a bit of cancer on the body during the winters there, but now, you would never know it, as I put over $5000.00 getting the body done, including both rear quarter panels, and one rear wheel well fender panel. I also had the rusted gas tank replaced (see pic) and the trunk's spare tire wheel well replaced.
The whole of the body was sanded and primed including the rusted underside of the trunk lid (see pic). After sitting in my shed for a number of years (covered), it does need to be re-blocked as surface rust appears now. There is rust inside where the floor meets the rocker panels, but the rocker panels themselves have NO rust.
I had completely stripped the car of all outside chrome and emblems, taken off the worn cloth top, door panels and handles. The seats need to be re-upholstered, and the door panels redone. But, here is the best part......
The convertible top motor (see pic) has been gone thru and the top goes up and down as it should. This car comes with the NOS cloth top (brand new and ready to install), and two "clear glass" plexi window inserts. (I did not know there was one plexi window in the trunk when I bought the car, so I inadvertantly bought another one).
This Sunliner starts and runs. The engine idles great, but in forward, the car sputters after 20 MPH (1st gear to second). I ran the car fast in reverse and it runs great with no problems. So I suspect its the vacuum hose line that goes from the carb down into the tranny modulator, or just an adjustment on the modulator itself. (an occasional problem with Ford's Cruise-O-Matic Tranny)
NOTE: the 352 C.I. V8 was Ford's biggest engine to date. This engine is worth the starting price alone, not to mention all the originals parts that could fetch much more on Ebay!
This is a great project car, as I have done most of the hard (and expensive) work on the body and organized all the parts needed to get this ragtop back to show condition. I am retired now and have no time or desire to finish this, as its time to travel and enjoy retirement. My loss is your gain.
Check the parts pictures and see all the parts you need to make this Sunliner your dream car. The only possible parts missing are those "extra" options and accessories like fender skirts, bumper guards ("dagmars"), or continental kit. Once painted its Original Torch Red, this Galaxie ragtop will surely turns heads.
