In 1941 the country was gearing up for war, and this involved car companies as well. Production was slowed, and in 1942 actually shut down for a few years to contribute to the war effort. As a result, examples of this car may vary from even car to car, due to limited parts, there were substitutions. The changes from 1941 to 1942 were very limited, and sometimes due to a swap of available parts on a particular run. So, during this time there were many "few off" cars which would become very rare.
For consignment an AACA Senior Badge and Grand National Badge car from a restoration the occurred about 20 years ago. Also, a movie star as consigner states that this car was used in the Jane Fonda Movie "The Doll Maker". The car did not win an Oscar though!
Exterior
Still in excellent condition, original color maroon paint covers all the steel panels that are fairly straight and true. The accessory bumper guards and wings, fender moldings, door handles, grille, light bezels, and window trims are all in good to excellent condition and shine brightly. Wide whites frame Ford deep dish rims and moon hubcaps. A beautiful black canvas convertible top with red piping, and a zippered rear window sit atop the maroon. Note that the top did not go up and down effortlessly, which led us to believe that the fluid that aids its mechanical movement, may be low.
Interior
Matching maroon artificial leather covers the interior seating and is correct for the period. The same material covers the door panels, and all Bakelite knobs as well as chromed cranks are there and accounted for. Fronting this duo of benches is a nicely done wood grained dash with cream Bakelite trim. The original steering wheel also in Bakelite is in excellent condition. Red carpet covers all floors and is stain free and fluffy. A note on the trunk as it is paneled with painted pressed board and has a rubber lining that sits in front of a new spare tire.
Drivetrain
Equipping this car is the original 90hp Flathead V8 engine, which is very clean and well maintained. Attached is a 3-speed transmission which shifts on the column...3 on the tree!)
Undercarriage
Solid, sturdy, rust free, and slightly patina, the undercarriage looks very nice for this show winner.
Time has passed, and this car has stayed the very same as when it received a quality restoration 20-30 years ago. Still presents like new and runs beautifully.
