1970 Ford Mustang ONE OWNER FROM NEW ONLY 59,200 MILES FROM NEW Marti Report - Very Rare, Very Cool Original Spec M-Code 351ci 4V V8, Shaker Hood, Competition Suspension, 4spd Manual VIN: 0F01M167148 0: 1970 Model Year F: Dearborn, MI Assembly Plant 01: Mustang 2dr Hardtop M: 351-4V V8 Engine 167148: Serial Number Tag Decode: 03/70: March, 1970 Build Date 65A: Mustang 2dr Hardtop K: Bright Gold Metallic Paint, Ford #3340-A BA: Black Vinyl Standard Bucket Seats 9: 3.25 Conventional Rear Axle 5: Four Speed Wide Ratio Manual Transmission 41: Chicago District Sales Office We purchased this phenomenally well-spec'd... 1970 Mustang from a local gentleman who had owned the car since new. When he initially ordered the car, he actually went to the dealer and test drove a Mustang Fastback, as that's what he thought he wanted. He was bothered by the poor rearward visibility while on the test drive, so he decided he'd rather option out a coupe to his liking. A bit unconventional, but we're so glad he took the road less traveled. We see a ton of fastbacks, and while they're super cool cars, this 351-4V/4spd/Shaker coupe really sticks out as something special. According to the Marti Report, this car is one of only 166 2dr Hardtops produced for 1970 with the M-code 351-4V and 4spd Manual, let alone the fact that it was optioned with a Shaker hood scoop, a striking colorway, and the desirable competition suspension (heavy duty springs, shocks, stabilizer bars front and rear). This one-owner Mustang is truly one in a million! As it sits now, this car can be driven and enjoyed as-is, though we absolutely feel this extremely rare example deserves a high-level restoration. Exterior: - Please see the video along with the listing, as the car is shown in detail. Blemishes are all shown close-up and under direct sunlight. Cosmetic drawbacks include bubbling along the rear quarter edges, as well as a variety of dings and chips scattered about the car. Again, please defer to the video for a close look. - The car was repainted once many years ago, and while the owner stuck with the correct color, wasn't quite done to a factory level. Original color of Bright Gold Metallic is stunning, and suits the car very well. - Glass and light lenses are crack-free, but the windshield does show some hard water stains, particularly on the passenger's side. Lights and signals are all functional. - Wheels are in nice shape, with no significant signs of age. Goodyear Eagle GT tires are in nice shape as well, and the DOT number indicates they were manufactured in 2014. - Polished surfaces: Taillight trim pieces show some oxidation. Front and rear bumpers are both quite good - no damage, very minor signs of age. Rocker trim has a couple significant scratches and is fairly dull. Window trim is excellent throughout. - Panel fitment is spot-on throughout, and the doors open and close nice and smoothly. Interior: - Both front and rear seats have been reupholstered in black vinyl (correct, originally a black vinyl car). Wear is negligible, seats are in excellent shape. - Dash top is crack-free, which is great to see. Dash still has a nice deep black shine to it. - Most glaring sign of age in the interior is the black carpet, which is still original. Has faded to grey a little bit around the console area. - Odometer reads just over 59,200 and is functional. 59k miles is accurate based on extensive conversations with the original owner and his daughter. - Radio is functional. Fan and heat are functional. This car was not optioned with air conditioning. - Headliner is nice and tight. - Front windows roll nice and smoothly, rears require a little help. Mechanical / Underbody: - Please take a look through the underbody photos, as the car is documented in detail. There is through rust surrounding the drain hole on the driver's side where the frame meets the body. Passenger's is much better, but still does show some corrosion around the drain hole. - The car runs and drives very well. It starts right up first turn, idles cool and steady, pulls HARD through the gears, shifts smoothly, has good clutch feel, and the ride quality is outstanding. No shakes, rattles, or other noises or tendencies of concern. The car tracks straight down the road and brakes straight and effectively. A well-sorted driver as-is, but with some obvious cosmetic needs. - Exhaust and fuel tank were replaced about a decade ago, shocks and tires were replaced just a few years ago.
