1965 Ford Mustang Pony Additional Info:
I am listing this 1965 Mustang coupe for a 10 day auction. Speedo says 65,562, and I believe that to be correct. This car has an interesting history. It was purchased from the original owner by a mechanic who had plans to restore the car. It sat in his garage for over 20 years until another man bought it as a father & son project. They took the car apart, completely, and kept all of the parts and interior in their basement. As kids do sometimes, the son changed his mind and bought a 90's Firebird, and the Mustang was put on a shelf, for a little over a year. I bought it about a month ago. It was a 4 lug, 6 cylinder car, with no registration or title. It was perfect for the crazy idea that I had. About 6 months ago, I bought a 1965 Mustang coupe that had it's original 289 4 barrel engine. The body and frame of the car were completely rusted and beyond repair, financially speaking. I stripped the car, sold some of the parts and kept the good stuff.
This car has some rust issues, but nothing really serious, or expensive to fix. For over 50 years old, it is in pretty good condition. None of the body panels need to be changed. The panels are all original, factory metal. There are no after market or reproduction parts on this car. The hood is excellent (donor car), the bumpers are straight, the frame is mostly solid and intact. The repairs that need to be addressed are some rot holes in the body and some spots on the frame rails. Nothing big. The biggest area is around the right rear wheel lip. Welding the spots may be more work than it's worth. Most of the stuff can be fixed with Bondo. The link has all the the spots detailed, with arrows. I have the door tags shown there also.
The interior is real nice. The headliner has no tears or slices The dash pad is not cracked or split. The seats are very nice. All of the glass is good and the stainless trim is in excellent condition.I took a lot of pictures of the car and especially the areas that need attention. I can send you a link if you text me. The car did not have any door panels when I received it. Everything else is either on the car or in the trunk. The car has an ignition key but the trunk lock is missing
From the A-code car, and into this car, I installed; the engine with V8 motor mounts, the V8 accelerator linkage is in the trunk, V8 steering column and Pitman arm, drag link and idler arm, V8 front drum spindles and tie rod ends, V8 radiator (Doesn't leak, nor does the heater core), V8 8" rear with 2.80 gears, and the 5 lug 19' wheels and tires (they leak). I also installed a different front valance, stone guard, front bumper and fender extensions.
The transmission is a 3 speed manual. I removed the Z-bar because it is different for a I-6 engine. A new one is needed. Although the transmission is in the car, it is not hooked up The clutch and bellhousing are in the trunk but it will need a flywheel.
The engine does not run as it is. The carburetor needs rebuilding, or another one. The V8 engine harness is also in the trunk. All of the other harnesses are still in the car. There are no rear brakes. The shoes and cylinders have been removed. All of the brake hardware is in a box in the trunk. All of the brake stuff, except for the shoes and cylinders.
The dash is complete and looks to be in good condition. Glove box is missing. Visors are good. Package shelf has speakers cut into it. The blue steering wheel is nice, with no cracks.
Floors have some some holes. Nothing huge. They can be repairedor replaced.
I'm trying to cover everything but I know I've left out something. I'll be editing this as I think of more information.
Contact or text me if you need to. This car is going to be nice. Good luck.
