You are looking at a beautiful and very well maintained 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible. I am helping a friend sell his Mustang, having sold 100+ others in the last 20 years. I do my best to be complete and through, and always give an honest overview of the vehicle I am selling. Many of the Mustangs I've sold are shipped without ever meeting the new owner, and there has never been a complaint nor issue. Let's take a closer look at this iconic vehicle....
Body & Paint: The body on the Mustang is in great condition with no dents. All of the body panels are in excellent condition. It's a very straight car. Care was taken when making sure all the panels lined up properly. The driver's side rear valance-to-body line is off just a bit, as evidenced in the photos. Likely just needs a slight adjustment.
The paint was redone in it's original color of Wimbledon White. Having been kept in a garage, or a Ford dealership showroom since being purchased in 2002, the paint is still in fantastic, high gloss condition with no fading or peeling. There are a couple of scratches, mainly on the RH front fender, which is noted in the photos. I would rate the overall paint job a 9/10, losing the one point only due to the aforementioned scratches Chrome: The chrome on the car still holds a nice shine and accents the car nicely. Overall rated from good to excellent. The Quarter Panel Ornaments show wear. We have a new, NOS pair that may be available with the purchase of the vehicle. The gas cap was purchased new since 2002. Bumpers: Rechromed originals. It's hard to see, but the rear bumper has a slight bend inward. This was a result of another vehicle bumping into it. Remarkably, the chrome is still perfect. It can likely be bent back. Or replaced. It is not noticeable unless you are looking hard for it. We can have this or any other item fixed locally at request of the buyer.
Powertrain & Engine Compartment: We are pretty sure this is the original 298 2V. That and the C-4 Automatic Transmission matches up with the data plate numbers. Runs & drives great. Automatic transmission works flawlessly. The engine compartment was repainted since the 2002 purchase. The air cleaner & valve covers are the correct color. Overall, it's in great shape, but could use a fine detailing. The orange hose in the photos is for the wiper bag. If I had another one on hand, I'd have replaced it before taking the photos. Easy fix! New fuel system, including lines, tank & sending unit. At the 2002 purchase, shock towers cracks were found and were repaired and reinforced by weld. Other Engine related work done: New battery; Electronic Ignition; plugs & wires; new steering box; new Power Steering pump & hoses; rebuilt carburetor; new harmonic balancer; Brakes: Since 2002 purchase, an upgrade was made from drum to front power disc brakes. They are in great condition. Wheels: The original hubcaps were replaced with Styled Steel Wheels. Trim Ring style The owner opted for the blue caps rather than the correct red color. We can get the red ones for the new owner, if interested. Windshield: Brand new! It was recently replaced. By chance, the shop had an original, shaded in stock. The rest of the glass on the car is in excellent condition. Suspension: After the 2002 purchase, new suspension was installed, including: Front control arms, shocks, tie rods, coil springs & sway bar. Data decoding (6) shows that the axle is a limited slip axle with a 2.80:1 gear ratio and it still rides very nice down the road.
Interior: Great to good condition. No visible rips or tears. The only "major" issue is the LH Pony door panel trim, shown in the photos. The dashpad is in great condition. There is a center console, with a matching custom aftermarket arm-rest/cupholder sitting atop. The seatbelts were done by Ssnake-Oyl, the world leader in seatbelt restoration.
New interior items since the 2002 purchase: Steering wheel' dash repaint, shift handle, console woodgrain kit, glove box, and dash pad. The convertible top is in great shape. This was the first time in several years that the power top was raised. The photos show dirt/spotting on the rear passenger side. We have not tired to clean it yet, and the top is in otherwise excellent condition. The Air Conditioner works great! The painted surfaces are in good shape, showing normal wear of the last 17 years. The door panels & paint have the most wear. Be sure to check out the high resolution photos. Audio: Custom AutoSound AM/FM Cassette head unit that fits in the original opening. It also controls a Kenwood CD 10 disc changer, mounted in the trunk. Works great. The sound was upgraded with a pair of aftermarket kick panel speakers, which were also custom painted to match the interior. The upper dash mono speaker was replaced with upgraded stereo speakers. Great care was taken to not alter the interior from original. Everything can easily be changed back to stock if desired. Trunk: New sound pad, trunk mat & tire cover. It looks like the trunk was painted when the car was redone. It's a great shape. Electrical: Everything on the Mustang appears to work as it should including the powered retractable convertible top. Security: The Mustang is equipped with LoJack. Rust & Damage Inspection: Undercarriage and floorpans are rust free. No evidence of tweaks, welds, accident damage or major repairs to the undercarriage/unibody.
Mileage: We believe that the actual mileage is 121245. Other Information: The Mustang was built on September 21, 1965 in San Jose, CA. It was first sold in Scottsdale, AZ at Paradise Ford. The original window sticker and years of maintenance records & reports will be included in the sale. If you have any questions about the vehicle, please use the Contact Buyer link. We'll be sure to respond quickly. Thanks for your interest!
