This 1934 Ford coupe has a little something for everyone. It's a little bit familiar but isn't a slave to tradition, and packs a potent 350 cubic inch V8 that makes it more than just pretty. Neat tricks abound, making this the rod for people who appreciate innovation and craftsmanship as much as loud engines and horsepower. If you squint, you can see an early gasser profile in this sleek coupe's DNA. Then again, the '34 is... a totally fantastic design and they took advantage of its many unique features to create this awesome rod. Up front there's the traditional heart-shaped grille which is still one of the finest designs of the '30s, and it's been raked back a bit to help with the sleek profile. Stripping it of its fenders and hood gives it a bare-knuckle look that's very appealing and with the bright turquoise paint and traditional pinstripe work, it's anything but subtle. Fortunately, this high-impact rod has the build quality to back up the eyeball-searing paint, because it cackles and snarls and the nose-up profile screams, "Let's race!" The open engine bay shows off the hardware and when you look close you'll find details like the trick gas tank that's integrated into the body lines, Pontiac taillights with blue-dot lenses, and a perfect chop. This rod does a lot of things exactly right. The interior is definitely primitive, with aluminum racing bucket seats wrapped in playful patio furniture pads with bright upholstery. Plain door panels continue the no-nonsense theme and the carpet adds to the fun. A full array of cream-colored Shark gauges fit in the dash and the red leather steering wheel just looks too cool in the turquoise passenger compartment. This car is obviously all about fun. You'll dig the 8-ball shifter, you'll appreciate the tilt steering column, and there's enough room for even tall drivers. And yes, this is a practical rod, too, because there's a good-sized trunk out back that's nicely upholstered and includes the remote-mounted battery. The engine is a 350 cubic inch V8 crate motor that's a few years old. Being exposed like that means it has to look good as well as go like stink, so they dressed it up with finned valve covers, a checkerboard pattern on the firewall, and that trick air cleaner that looks like a vintage injection system. Horsepower is enhanced by a big Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and intake underneath that trick air cleaner and a pretty decent cam inside. An aluminum radiator keeps things nice and cool and with those headers and side pipes, it sounds like the 1950s all over again. The transmission is a TH350 3-speed automatic, so this '34 can cruise effortlessly at highway speeds and actually pulls down decent fuel economy while doing it. The chassis features a Vega steering box, front disc brakes on a Speedway dropped front axle, and a Ford 8-inch rear end on coil-overs and trailing arms. Slick sand cast aluminum wheels give it that old-school stance and are wrapped in 195R15 skinnies up front and fat 27.5x11x15 McCreary cheater slicks out back. This is another one of those cool rods that couldn't possibly be duplicated for the asking price. If you like the minimalist look, you'll be delighted with the surprises inside. Call today!
