1965 Ford Ranchero Restomod with original Patina
Up for sale is my 1965 Ford Falcon Ranchero that originally came from the factory with a 289 and 4 speed. This is a C code car which means it was originally a 2bl. The car has been completely updated mechanically which I will go into more detail below. I purchased the car a couple of years ago on eBay as a roller from California. The car was complete but hadn't been on the road and years...it is completely rust free and wears about 65% original paint. If you are into the "patina" look then this car is for you.
If you are looking for a meek and mild stock Ranchero, then this car is probably not for you. I chose a "period" hot rod approach that not only enhances the go faster ability but to improve the handling, stopping etc.
When I said earlier that the car is updated mechanically I mean from radiator to fuel tank. Nothing was left undone. In the engine compartment resides a period 289 that was rebuilt, and dyno tested/broken in by a prominent race shop in Houston. The car probably has less than 500 miles on it. It made 335HP at 6000RPM on the dyno and dyno sheet is in the pics. CR is 10.2:1 and runs on Premium pump gas with timing set at 34 degrees total. I have complete build information available if your interested. It flows through Doug's Tri Y headers with an X pipe exhaust exiting with dumps at the rear axle. Sounds mean with a nice chop. It has a 3 row Aluminum radiator and runs around 180 even idling in traffic. Ignition is MSD with a billet mechanical advance distributor. Intake is a Weiand Stealth with Holley 650 DP carburetor.
Front end is totally new with new 1 inch lowering springs (with Shelby drop), new control arms, strut rods, tie rod ends, idler arm, steering gear box etc. I have also stiffened the front with a lower aftermarket cross member and upper adjustable Monte Carlo bar. Shocks are QA1 all the way around. Rear springs are new with a 1-inch drop.
The original Borg Warner T10 was rebuilt and is fresh along with new Ram clutch and aluminum flywheel. Drive shaft was re-balanced and with new U-joints installed. The 8-inch rear end was ditched (probably overkill!) for a completely new 9-inch rear end that houses a Trac Loc diff with 3.50:1 gears. Housing is the "big bearing" style updated with large 11-inch drum brakes. All rubber brake hoses were replaced with flexible SS hoses. Front brakes were converted from drum to disc using Ford caliper brackets and SSB rotors and calipers with SS pistons. All new brake lines front to rear. It stops very well. It also has a brand-new fuel tank and sending unit with all new lines front to rear.
As for the interior the seats were redone by a local upholstery shop in the original type material and pattern. New door panels, kick panels with speakers and a Retrosound radio with a small amp that is hidden in the glove box. The stock factory instrument bezel wasn't in very good shape, so I purchased an aftermarket bezel that includes speedometer, tach, oil pressure, water temp, voltage and fuel. Everything works as it should. The headliner hasn't been done only because I have not been able to find the bows.
The car sits nice, it is very straight drives and runs fantastic! I don't think you will be disappointed. You can drive it home if you like. I have over 20K invested in the car and have all documentation to back it up. Whoever wins this auction will likely be getting a steal. I need to make room in my garage for another project so this one needs to go. However, I won't give it away so if you want to reach out to me to discuss reasonable offers I would love to hear from you. I am starting the auction with a number that is a fraction of what I have investing to hopefully get some interest. As I said, I am open to reasonable offers, but you must contact me through eBay with your contact information so that we discuss by phone. Good luck and happy bidding!
