I'm reluctantly selling my 1965 289 Mustang (too many toys and storage costs). It was purchased new in Denver and kept by the original owners until 2013 (I'm the 3rd owner). It was purchased from the original owner's estate by the second owner who shipped itto Rochester NY. He only had it for about a year due to knee issues. I've owned thecar for4 years. It is completely original with a complete original interior in mint condition, vinyl top, wheel covers purchased new with the car, very nicechromeand all working mechanics/electrical. The engine, a rare A code 4 barrel (225 HP), has never been touched and runs and drives extremely well. The super clean engine bayhas original paint, including thegold valve covers.Everything works electrically and it has a current NYS inspection. It was built in San Jose and is an early 1965 and has some 1964 1/2 parts. The original owners did some research on that and it's in the scrapbook (mentioned later).
I have all the paperwork from the purchase, and all the receipts through the years. I even have a 35 MM movie of when the owners drove out of the dealership in Aug1964 (my neighbor has a 35MM movie projector and I was able to watch it).The owners were meticulous and kept it garaged and the seats covered. It is completely unmolested, and accident free and rust free. The car was a daily driver until about 1972, then retired and used sparingly after that point. When theoriginal owners retired they showed the car thru the Denver Mustang Club and won several awards.Thescrapbook the original owners put togethershows thosepictures and memories. The car was featured in Mustang Monthly magazine (see pic) in the 90's. The car was purchased from Phil Long Ford in Denver and for the 30th anniversary of the Mustang debut in 1994, the car was featured at the dealership (pics in the scrap album).
It has a 3 speed manual transmission (unfortunately not a 4 speed). The car was repainted in 1988 in it's original color, Silver Smoke Grey. The options bought with the car are listed in one of the pics with the original pprwrk.
When I bought the car, the shifter was a little stiff and Iinstalled a shifter rebuild kit and it made a big difference. A couple years ago Iinstalled 4 new radial whitewall tires (they have less than 500 miles on them), and a new alternator (I have theoriginal). Also the temp gauge didn't work which fortunately needed justa new sensor at the engine block. I bought a maintenance free Autolite repro battery ($300) but it died after a fewyears, I still have the battery for show and now usinga regular battery and repro Autolite topper (1 year old). I bought FOMOCO repro battery cables and FOMOCO stamped headlights, those can be seen in the photos.
It also has an original radiator, stamped 1964, and was recored. I replaced the rear shocks last year. The trunk area has the original mat, spare cover and original tools with bag. The rear license plate frame is the original from Phil Long Ford, the dealership where the car was purchased
Also comes with a California Car Cover (custom fit),dash cover, cup/storage holder between the seats, original 1965 Ford Shop Manual,if you are registering the car in NY state, included isa really nice 1964 Worlds Fair license plate, which the car is currently registered with. It has an electronic ignition but I have the original 'Yellow Top' ignition coil and a point set, if you want to put it back to as it was.
The only issue I have is the driver's door sometimes doesn't close right, but does after thedoor lock knob is moved up or down. Something is off with the door lock mechanism but requires the door panel to be removed to get to it.
The car is located in Aurora, NY in my locked garage. In perfect running condition. Will help with shipping arrangements if needed. $1000 deposit required within 48 hours of the auction end. I havea few more pictures I can send upon request.
