1968 Ford Mustang GT/California Special Additional Info:
Really unbelievable condition. I got my first Mustang 38 years ago when I dated the Mustang Club Presidents daughter. Since then I have had a couple dozen and Ive seen hundreds. Ive driven everything from unrestored basket cases to national level trailered cars. This is the very best driving unrestored car I’ve ever driven. It drives as good as any Ive had the pleasure of driving. The car is exceptional in every way. That being said it does have a couple things that should be addressed. Exterior - The exterior is fantastic with even patina throughout. The paint still shines and is super thin. There are two exterior areas that need attention. The original owner scraped the passenger side cowling and rear quarter. As you can see i peeled off the decal to determine the situation. At the time this happened they didn’t reproduce the part so the original was used. The quarter and the cowl were blended in. The quarter looks fine but the cowl needs reworking. No big deal but needs doing. The second area I took a super close up of is about the size of a quarter on the rear quarter. Needs repair so it doesn’t get worse. Overall the exterior is just amazing. The roof and some of edges are not rotted just great thin patina. Keep in mind this car is 95 percent original paint. I have the decal set and was planning to get the spot fixed properly and restripe cowl only. I will include the stripe set. The wheels are correct and show no curb rash. One of the incorrect exhaust tips came off on my way to photograph the car. I will include the correct dual exhaust tips from Scott drake with the car. The fog lights are original and even have the covers. There is some crazing on the car and some scuffs here and there on the rear spoiler, also in close ups. Overall its hard to believe a mustang this original and laser straight with all original body panels is available. Interior -The interior is also exceptional. The carpet is original and when I bought the car everything else was too. I replaced the seat covers. The originals had no rips or tears but they had lost their form a bit. I replaced the buns and front and rears. I also replaced the door panels. The originals were almost perfect but the faux chrome had come off. I also replaced the drivers side door handle. The original was drooping. The radio and headliner and everything else is original and beautiful. Dash pad is original. All lights and signals work. It is very different to have an unrestored car with American made parts. The headliner has a 1 inch tear by the rear deck. I would not replace it. The doors have not been painted inside and are beautiful in my opinion. They have all the grain that restored cars do not have.Mechanicals-The car is in excellent mechanical shape. It is the original 302 with power steering and factory AC. The car runs and drives as good as any I have driven. Shortly after I purchased the car it stopped going in reverse. To my dismay the fluid was full. I had the transmission rebuilt with all upgrades possible. I also had the following doneNew timing chain and gear set (original nylon replaced with double roller type)New harmonic balancerWater pumpRebuilt CarbThermostat housingBypass hoseTemp sending unitValve cover gasketsHeater control valveNew hoses and clamps throughout. Correct battery cablesNew AC CompressorNew Evaporator etc. AC is Ice ColdReplaced inner and outer window felts and rubbersInstalled passenger side Scott drake mirrorLots more I cant recall all with receipts. The front end was rebuilt before I got the car so everything is super tight. No steering wheel play.Note the car has power steering and power brakes. They are not disc brakes. The brake pedal has a disc brake pedal cover. I was going to have Sherman of Sunstate mustangs convert to factory correct disc brakes. Correct spindles etc. I can still have this done but is not included in the price. Will cost 1500 to complete the conversion. Overall I have not seen a better unrestored mustang in a very long time if ever. I would buy this over most restorations I have seen but I love original metal and love driving the cars. 20k dollar paint jobs are not my idea of fun driving. The underside of the car and trunk are off the charts good. This is a black plate California car. It was owned by its original owner for most of its life. I have the original window sticker, the original sales order, and the original build sheet (in pieces). I also have the original manuals, Marti report and stacks of invoices. If you have questions don’t hesitate to give me a call. 813-777-7628. I have a very fair number for the car. Im selling it for what I have in it. Unexpected medical bills force the sale or this would be my keeper. Good luck bidding though I don’t think it will last very long.
