1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1
I am selling this 1970 Mustang Mach 1 for a family friend who has fallen on hard times and needs the money for personal matters. Keep in mind that I don't specialize in classic cars and I am selling this for a friend so if it sounds like I have no clue what I'm talking about, it's probably accurate. So here's what I DO know:
This IS a numbers matching car. The casting numbers on the bottom of the block read : 9M5 DOAE-J
The car has been owned by the folks I'm selling the car for since 1998, and it's been garaged since except for the occasional weekend drive. They purchased it from a classic car dealer in Hollywood, Florida. The car is originally from Houston, TX which is why there's no rust to be seen on the car or underneath. There is a spot of rust starting to bubble on the drivers door jam which I've pictured (maybe the size of a half dollar).
The car runs and drives near perfect, it fires right up and does not sputter or anything, nice and smooth. I've driven the car on 2 30-mile trips in the last week and it shifted smooth both times. Thankfully the car does have power steering/power brakes and also A/C but it blows warm (could be as simple as adding freon, but I don't have a clue honestly). The only thing I did notice was a moderate clunk in the front right when going over speed bumps, but after further examination we've come to the conclusion that the front left shock may be blown.
All 4 brakes and 4 tires were done in the last year and as far as mechanical aspects that need attention, they are as follows:
*Gauges: The only gauge that works consistently is the speedo. When it feels like it, the oil pressure gauge works. Alternator gauge has been in the middle the entire time we've had it (2 weeks) even when the car is off, which I'm assuming is not correct. The fuel gague has been at empty since that time as well even after putting fuel in it.
*Fuel tank: The fuel tank should be replaced due to a sub-par repair on the bottom.
As far as cosmetic flaws on the car, there is a short list of things that need attention:
*Body damage: There is body damage in 2 areas of the car. The first of the 2 is the front right corner. There is damage to the hood, top of the fender and also chrome/alluminum piece above the headlamp. The 2nd spot is above the driver rear tire, mostly just scuffs but there is about a 4" paint chip. Both of these damaged areas I have specifically pictured below.
*Drivers seat belt is torn and should be replaced.
*Passenger exterior door handle is missing a screw that keeps is secured against the door.
*Center console is cracking due to its age and should be replaced.
The only thing that I really see on the car that is aftermarket is the stereo system. There is an amplifier that is screwed into place in the trunk on the backside of the rear seat. I'm not really sure if the speakers on the doors are supposed to be in that spot or not, but they are there now.
This is a great running car that is numbers matching, take the mileage on the odometer as you want, The title says "exempt" (which is extremely common for any vehicle 10 years or older, the State of Florida automatically makes vehicles exempt that are 10 years or older unless you request it not to be) and I am selling it miles exempt. The people I'm selling the car for think it's 108K and I think that is pretty accurate. It's highly doubtful somebody only drove this beautiful car 8,000 miles in 46 years.
Here's my honest opinion on the car:
This is a beatiful car that has what looks to be most options from that year. The fact that it is a numbers matching car and is mostly stock with the original aspects still on the car make it valuable even looking passed the things that it needs. I contemplated purchasing the car myself to toy with on the weekends just for the simple fact that this car will ONLY gain in value, I'm just not in the financial position to do so right now. I'm not a classic car kind of guy due to my age, but driving this car around town is awesome. Just the looks it gets from people is astounding. My assessment may mean nothing to you, but there it is.
So here's the deal. This isn't a car that I'm making any money on as odd as that may seem, so pick up the phone and call me if you have any questions about the car or if you want to make me a reasonable offer. Keep that word reasonable in mind please, just because I know nothing about these cars doesn't mean I can't look up comparable cars to obtain a fair market value. I feel that this car is aggressively priced for what it is and should sell fairly quick, which is good because these folks are in dire need of the funds.
