You are looking at a 1966 Ford 250 Twin I-Beam Crew Cab pickup. This truck has a good deal of modifications made to it, and it is truly a one-of-a-kind machine. This truck belonged to my wife’s grandpa, who was the first and only owner; this truck was his baby. It was put into a barn for storage after he passed, where it sat for 20 years. We recently pulled it out and got it running. After just a little bit of love, it started right up like it was brand-new.
This truck has a lot of history, and we know most of it. This body style is very rare. Ford only made a few of these trucks, designed specifically for the railroad in the American west. This was only the second year that Ford made crew cab trucks in-house, and it is sometimes referred to as a “6-pack”. The original owner was a lineman for the telephone company and did a lot of work in the Idaho backcountry, and he modified this truck pretty significantly for that lifestyle. The original owner loved this truck and cared for it meticulously. He modified it to work as hard as he did, and when it was used as his daily driver, it was cared for meticulously. That being said, it is a project, so please read the description carefully before bidding.
The body of this truck is very nice. It has no dents. The paint job was well-maintained when the owner was alive, but needs to be repainted now. It is an emerald green with chrome accents. It has side steps on the bed to access the custom toolbox in the bed. It has diamond plate in the bed and a custom tailgate to accommodate a 5th wheel. It has a custom gooseneck trailer receiver in the back that can be removed. There is a custom vinyl bed cover that clips along the side of the truck bed and along the front of the custom toolbox (see photos). There are several added custom lights throughout the vehicle, including back-up lights mounted on the side mirrors, bed lights, engine lights, even a spotlight (however, the spotlight needs to be rewired and is not currently working). It has a Warn Winch on the front that works perfectly—this truck is ready to do some serious work!
Inside the cab has some really cool modifications. The original dash looks very nice, but the original owner added some airplane instruments—none of this was done for looks, it all works! There is a tachometer, an altimeter, a compass, fuel pressure gauge. This truck has been equipped with a 16-gear transmission—it was built to pull just about any amount of weight up steep backcountry roads—so there are two shifters on the floor. The radio is not stock and plays cassettes. The radio and speakers are not working at this time, but probably just needs to be rewired. The original heater and vents all work. There is an air-conditioning unit that’s been added to the passenger side. It’s not working at this time, but according to the last person to drive it, it was working when it stopped being used as a daily driver. The stock front seat has been replaced with three airplane seats that are in great shape and quite comfortable—the old man spent a lot of time in this truck and wanted to be comfortable! The backseat is stock with original black vinyl—it was covered when we pulled it out of the barn, and it is in excellent condition with just one small tear behind the driver’s seat. Behind the back seat, there are 2 ammo cans and a gun rack mounted above and below the rear window. The interior is in very nice shape. All the glass is good but for one small chip that’s been repaired in the windshield, but most of the rubber needs to be replaced in the windows and doors. There is a CB radio installed with a high-frequency antenna. We couldn’t figure it out, but according to the last person who drove it, it was functional when it was parked.
The motor was replaced in 1993 with a 391 big block V8. It has an aftermarket Edelbrock carburetor. It has its original gas tank, but Grandpa wanted to be able to head into the backcountry without worrying about gas, so he added 2 more gas tanks. There is an airhorn (see photos) with an air tank mounted under the hood, as well as two utility boxes under the hood. It has a brand-new battery, new fuel filters, new air filter. We changed the oil, drained out the bad gas, flushed the radiator, and bled the brakes—this truck sounds very nice and rolls down the road smooth. The tires have plenty of tread, but the rubber is old and cracking. Most of the rubber throughout the vehicle needs to be replaced, including some fuel lines.
The body looks very nice, but there is rust in the frame and in the radiator, it looks like from a radiator leak (see photos). The frame is where this truck needs the most work, but this rare body style definitely makes it worth it. The driver’s side floor has diamond plate, but the passenger side floor has some rust.
This old truck is one-of-a-kind. It is a very cool vehicle, designed to be a powerful workhorse. There is a lot of character and a lot of history in this truck, and we can tell you most of it.
