The culmination of a life-long dream, this is undoubtedly one of the finest Deuce roadsters in the country. It has been featured in several publications and was the Centerfold Vehicle in the beautiful "Art of the Hot Rod" book by Ken Gross with photography by Peter Harholdt. Street Rod builder did a cover story on this vehicle in June of 2006 and much of the information from this listing was gleaned from that article. This outstanding '32 Deuce was invited to the 2006 Detroit Autorama to compete for the coveted Ridler Award. In that competition it won 1st Place for Altered Street Roadster 32 and it also took home the BASF Perfect Award for best paint. These awards are pictured in our photo gallery.
This 1932 Ford is among the last of the Lobecks and a representative of his signature blend of custom coach-built American craftsmanship and ingenuity. Timeless style and traditional custom touches combined with perfect stance and road-tested, high-performance engineering result in a drivable 1932 Ford Street Rod with the Lobeck Look and a luxury feel. Commissioned for the current owner, it has been driven 4253 careful miles and remains in Concours condition. The Lobeck Look was more than skin deep, and his cars were built to drive. As such the ZZ4 350 CI Crate small-block rated at 350 HP and finished to a high-level of detail fitting of a Barry Lobeck creation. A custom built low-profile dual snorkel air breather sits atop a 4Bbl carburetor. The exhaust features block hugger headers mated to custom fabricated stainless steel pipes. The transmission is a 350 Turbo Automatic. The air cleaner, the custom fabricated valve covers and the engine are all finished in gloss black. This Lobeck blend of tradition and customization has an all-steel Brookville body sitting on a Lobeck Just-A-Hobby frame. It has a classic paint scheme mated with subtle body modifications. The reshaped fenders and cowl provide a distinctive wedge shape. The two tone paint scheme has black on top with Corvette Sunburst Orange on the fenders and lower panels with a single scallop placed on the doors. The scallop frames vents on hood panels that were actually sourced from a 1959 Chevy accessory catalogue. The interior was installed in the shop of Shawn Appleman of Lancaster Ohio using fine leather hides and wool carpeting in burnt orange for a simple yet elegant look to complement the exterior of the car. The heated seat is comfortably mated with a Lokar shifter and pedals. The Billet Specialties steering wheel has been wrapped in black leather on top to match the dash and burnt orange on the bottom matching the upholstery. There is a laid back Muroc windshield and clean, simple gauges from Classics Instruments.
