Upgraded from the original 223-6 cylinder to a period correct 283-V8 Chevy engine equipped with a 3-speed TH-350 Automatic Transmission, 9-inch Ford 360 Third Member, RV Shift Kit, Torque Converter, Edelbrock manifold, Carter 4-Brl carb, new power steering, new rear drum/front disc brakes, complete new front-end, custom interior, carpet, headliner, swivel Captains Seats, vintage gauges, chrome wheels, tires and dual exhaust. This is the last year Ford made the Panel Van. Originally built at Ford’s San Jose, CA plant and reportedly part of Helms Bakery of Los Angeles delivery van fleet in the 1960’s. In 2003 complete shop restoration and two-tone green/cream custom paint done by Performance Rod and Truck Center in San Diego who owned and rebuilt it to be used as their “shop truck”.
When the shop closed in 2004 the owner sold it to a friend who drove it to Seattle where it was garaged and only used for going to local car shows. I purchased it last year for business advertising and drove it back to San Diego with no issues. Much of its 7500 miles are from driving it up to Seattle and then back to San Diego. It’s been great for local use, but I need to get something larger now for long distance hauling. I also own a 1955 Thunderbird that also runs and drives perfectly. My wife won’t let me keep both… so I must sell this or I’ll wind up sleeping in it!
