VINTAGE 1973 FORD F-250 RANGER XLT
This is a nice old survivor grandpa truck. There are a lot of these old fords out there, ut the most of them are beat up, usty, r both. This is a really clean classic pickup and it appears to be all original. This truck runs great and the body and interior are very nice. It's an F250 ranger XLT camper special. This is NOT the extended wheelbase style camper special. I believe that was the f-350 only. Below are all the details on this ford. I do have many more pics I can send also. Thank you.
This truck has a 429/460 big block. I'm not sure which one, ut I can run some numbers and find out for sure if you'd like. It is a 4V engine, ut has an adapter plate on it now and a 2v. The motor runs really nice. It has good power, ven with the 2-barrel. I'm sure a 4V carb would probably make have nice power, ut carb/headers/intake/cam would really open it up. It may be an earlier high HP 429 because it just seems to have better power than the 460's I've had from this era. It does not smoke, eak, ick, r knock. It runs cool with no overheating. No water in the oil, r oil in the water. This is the camper special, o it has a huge heavy duty radiator. It has the HD C-6 automatic and it works perfectly. This truck has a 3:50 geared rearend. It originally had a 4:10 most likely, ut the previous owner switched them so it would drive better on the highway. The exhaust is a single pipe and needs a new muffler. It is not loud though and is usable as-is. The brakes work great. This truck has A/C. The belt is off but everything else appears hooked up. I can check to see if there is pressure in the system. The lights, ipers, eater/defrost, tc. do work. The truck had newer tires on it when I bought it, hich I used on one of my 4x4's. They were a mud type tire which did not look good on this truck anyways. It now has 245 sized 16" tires which I think look better and it looks lower now and more like an f150. The tires don't have much tread on them but would probably last a summer. The truck runs nice but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to change the fluids and check the spark plugs and things like that. It does not miss at all though, r do anything abnormal like that. The choke is not setup right now for cold weather. I can set it up right if you'd like. It is an automatic choke and works fine when manually set. The previous owner did not drive this in the winter, o it was setup for warm weather.
BODY
The body on the truck is very nice. I don't know the history on it but it appears to have been a grandpa owned truck. It's very clean, traight, nd tight. The paint is in nice shape and all body panels are very straight. The paint appears original. No sign of any filler. I have many other pics I can send also. It is a very dry truck. The inside of the box is in nice shape and looks to have had little use. My guess is that it probably was used to either tow or haul a camper in the summers. I'm not sure though. The passenger side has a step that comes out when the door is opened for people to use to get it. It would be easy to remove it. The doors, ood, nd tailgate work properly. The grille, ront bumper, nd stainless is in nice shape. The windshield has small chips but is completely usable. The camper special emblem for the passenger side is included, ut not on the truck in the pictures. It is difficult to find a '73-'79 ford with a body this clean. It would be a great truck for a 4x4 conversion also.
INTERIOR
This pickup has very very nice original black interior. I've owned many 73-79 fords and it is nearly impossible to find one with original interior this nice, specially the seat. The seat looks original. It is a specific ford material and pattern, nd I do not think you could get one recovered in this manner if you wanted to. The mileage on the odometer says 36,435 miles. It could be original judging by the interior condition, r 136,435 miles of very careful use. I'm sure this truck was babied most of the time. They just don't survive like this after 43 years unless they were well taken care of. The door panels, arpet, nd dash are very nice. The headliner is nice also but had come loose on one edge at one time. It is not hanging down though. It looks nice but reproductions are inexpensive. The radio looks original and comes on but the antenna is broken off so I'm not getting any channels. I live in an area where you need the antenna to get anything. Overall the interior is really nice. It's also a bonus that it's black instead of tan or beige.
OVERALL
This would be a nice truck to drive as-is, otrod, r maybe use for a 4x4 conversion. There are a couple different ways to convert these to 4x4's. Neither are super easy, ut primarily require time and a donor truck. Thanks and happy bidding. Sold as-is.
