Dressed in a great looking, period-correct color, with a thorough "down to the nuts and bolts" restoration close behind in its rear view mirror, this 1966 Ford Mustang is a sharp looking, strong running first generation specimen of the model that was so overwhelmingly popular, it led to the creation of a previously unheard of segment of the automotive market - the "pony car". A classic that's benefitted from a thorough and exacting rebuild, with no... shortcuts taken nor aesthetic band aids applied, is always a sight to behold and that's what we have here with this '66. Its Emberglo exterior sits under a strong clearcoat that produces a great shine, showing nice, even pigmentation and a smooth texture from front to back. Most of the collection of chrome exterior fittings on display were not merely restored, but replaced entirely, so the fact that the front and rear bumpers, signature "running pony" grille emblem and trim surrounding the windows all look unusually fresh comes as no surprise - even the door handles have a new-looking appearance. After having been completely disassembled and inspected, when the time came to put the pieces back together, it was done with obvious care and precision, as this Mustang shows nice, uniform gaps surrounding its doors, hood and deck lid, allowing them to open and close smoothly. New weather stripping has also been installed to keep the elements out. Inside the doors, you'll find a fresh, great looking interior featuring upgraded, two-tone Pony upholstery that sits over sharp, copper-colored carpeting. Having been newly installed, the seat covers on both the front buckets and rear bench seat have yet to develop any real signs of wear. The color coordination inside is really impressive - the beige door panels tie in perfectly with the matching shade on the dash and the straight, supple-looking dash pad complements the carpeting nicely. Peer through the woodgrain steering wheel and you'll see an instrument cluster that itself features a matching insert, with its assortment of factory gauges all fully functional and easily readable. Another plus is the condition of the control knobs and switches on the dash - not only do they all work as intended but they also present very well - a welcome sight as this is an often overlooked step in the restoration process. The trunk area is nice and clean, with signature Ford plaid covering its floor and covering the spare tire. The inner wheelhouses and hinges are exposed, and you can see that they've been well-prepped and nicely painted. The entire drivetrain, engine, transmission and rear end have been rebuilt, so there's plenty of road-readiness to go along with outstanding curb appeal. A 289 cubic inch V8 sits between the shock towers with its properly painted blue heads and a chrome air cleaner sitting over its 4-barrel Edelbrock carb and intake manifold. It sounds just as strong as you'd expect, fires up quickly and teams with a 3-speed automatic C4 transmission. A number of other new parts have been added to further up the dependability factor, including recently replaced brakes and brake lines, a multitude of new suspension components and a new wiring system. A look below reveals a very solid-looking undercarriage. Smooth power steering makes this vintage Ford an easy navigator as it turns heads on its 15" American Racing wheels that are outfitted with Bridgestone Insignia SE-200 tires. A first-generation Mustang that's been as skillfully restored as this 1966 Ford Mustang has and offers a fresh, high functioning drivetrain and sharp-looking, era-correct exterior is a pretty compelling sight.
