1964 Ford Galaxie 500 Additional Info:

1.) 1964 Ford Galaxie 500. 2 door Fastback. Exterior Color: Raven Black. Interior Color: Red. Transmission: Automatic. Engine: 289 c.i. ("C"), 2 bbl carb., 200 h.p. Power steering. Car was ordered with no radio or side mirrors. New England car. Now stored in Woodstock, Connecticut. (860) 830-7365

2.) 16,183 original miles. Bought from original Massachusetts family. Grandmother bought it. Grandson sold it. Contact information is available. Car was only driven from 1964 to 1967. Never stored outdoors. Garaged from 1964 to 1984 in Fiskdale, Massachusetts. Transported to new garage in Brimfield, Massachusetts (hubcap pictures) in 1984. Garaged, and occasionally taken out of moth balls until 2008. Then, garaged in north eastern Connecticut until 2018. This was an out-of-hibernation project not a restoration project. Dual exhaust with Smithy glass packs is your project, if you so choose... <;-)

3.) New (bought in 2010, no miles) American Racing 15 x 8 Torque Thrust D's with General Altimax RT 235/70 radials. I noticed they rub a little bit with the wheel sharply turned. Paid $1400, with tax and shipping. Two sets of new McGuard wheel locks included. Bias ply tires on original rims have less than 100 miles on them; essentially NOS. Probably installed around 1984 when the car was moved to another storage location. Four F-78-14" bias ply tires are easily worth $100 a piece. See picture of tread close-up. Original (4) hub caps, (5) rims, air cleaner, valve covers--all there.

4.) Original (presently installed) 2100 series/2 bbl carburetor was rebuilt. New fuel tank and sending unit (7/2018). New mechanical fuel pump (2013). Fuel line was rust-sediment free. Spare parts: Remanufactured 2100 series Autolite/Motorcraft 2 bbl. carburetor. For 1970 (larger emissions diaphragm, etc.) and up. Inherited from previous owner. Not exact fit for this Galaxie, but would work fine if ever needed. Estimated value: $200. Used electric fuel pump thrown in. Various manuals thrown in.

5.) Bumpers are in good condition, but rear has some scratches on driver's side. See picture.

6.) Driver's side floor carpet has a tear. Could be fixed by a pro. Plenty of aftermarket available.

7.) 75% original paint. Passenger rear quarter received an 18 inch scratch/dent from a riding mower while garaged. Scratch/dent was professionally fixed. There is also an 1/4 inch diameter divot in the passenger rear window that could be filled by a glass professional. Probably a pebble strike from the same riding mower while in storage.

8.) Chrome engine dress-up kit. Paid $100. (Decal stating "289 High Performance" is not true.) Generator bracket had to be modified to accept taller chrome valve cover. Original, unmolested bracket included. Car can be returned to stock at any time. New Exide 24FX battery (bought 7/2018). New TRW VL35 hydraulic lifters. Aftermarket Red Taylor 8MM plug wires, cap & rotor, Duralast coil. New black plug wires, cap & rotor included, if you want to return to stock appearance.

9.) When taking this museum piece further out of hibernation: coolant flush, new hoses, new wires, new belts, dress-up kit, carburetor rebuild, etc.--> I also added Sea Foam to the crankcase during the oil change (to loosen up any possible stuck oil rings), a week or two after getting the engine running. The Sea Foam made some of the pressed rocker studs work loose (common problem with the 1964-1967 289's). Bought retro-fitted heads (on eBay for $450, with shipping and handling), with the threaded studs from an Auto Machinist from PA. He did a complete valve job as well, including planing (see picture). Not sure if he lapped the valve seats, though. Retro-fitted heads have the modern teflon valve seals, not the umbrellas. Triple springs that were installed with the PA heads were too heavy so I bought the correct 89 lb. pressure springs and installed them myself. The PA springs also included in the spare parts. Original heads will be in the trunk with the rest of the spare parts. Will need retrofitting with threaded rocker studs. See pics of cylinders. No ridge (16,183 miles confirmed!).

10.) Original exhaust is thin in places. Original muffler is still good. Cross pipe might also be salvageable.

11.) Spare parts. New 1964-1970 small block Mustang headers. FlowTech, P/N 12102. Estimated value: $150. (Not compatible with this Galaxie without modification.)

12.) Spare parts. New shorty headers for FORD small block. Estimated value: $125. (Compatible with this Galaxie.

Video addendum: Exhaust sputtering in video likely due to low octane fuel. Latest tank refill has octane booster and lead substitute. (Oil change also has Zinc additive.) Other video was to show mobility/transmission operation.
