1986 Ford Other Double Rear Spoiler Additional Info:
I am the second owner, bought in Spokane WA in 1994, it had 32k well maintained miles. I loved driving and the handling of this Merkur Xr4ti. It was my main form transportation for over twenty years putting 100,000 plus enjoyable miles on it. Unfortunately, after my husband/mechanic died, I lack the funds to keep it in top Running condition. So I put it in storage a few years ago with the idea that I would restore it. Until 3 ago it was stored inside for the most part. Here's what I know it needs now, complete front-end rebuild to keep it handling as it should, it needs the carrier bearing replaced (i have a new carrier/throw-out bearing that goes with the car), has a slight air leak where the turbo connects to the header, (one header bolt is broke), a slight oil leak-believe from the transmission, (not sure why because I had the transmission rebuilt before I stopped driving it. I also had the brakes rebuilt, but could use an update. It has never been wrecked or damaged, it has some miner rock chips. the paint being silver (unfortunately I needed the inside storage space and my Merkur had to sit outside for the past two/three years, so the Silver is badly oxidized and needs repainting). (The front leather seat bottoms need to be recovered, the back leather is still usable-needs miner seam resewn. No leaks around the sunroof.
This is a solid no rust/cancer car and would be a good project for reconditioning or for a full restoration (maybe customize or up grade). The engine is strong and starts right up. It still drives and can be driven taking into consideration that it needs front end work.
I loved this Marque 'The Merkur' and the engineering that went into the design and performance. Nothing else in my mind, from this area, can match the performance of this German engineered suspension combined with the turbo charge Ford 289. And, I am sorry that I don't have the means to have it restored. This is the reason I have finally decided to let it go to someone who know how good these little Merkurs; are!
Selling AS IS, 1986 Ford Merkur xr4ti: It runs and can be driven, but would be best if hauled or have the front end rebuilt here - as well as have new carrier bearing installed (locally); before driving any distance. I have records of repairs though-out the years.
