This rare little red Mustang convertible is being sold to help pay the costs of its owner's cancer treatments.
In January, 1988, the owner of this Mustang went with her father to the local Ford dealership where he purchased the brand new 1987 Mustang GT convertible saying, "if we keep this car for twenty years, it will double in price if we keep the mileage low." Her father used the carfor parades and drove it 300 miles round trip to his daughter's college graduation, but basically, the car was locked in the garage for 30 years. Her father died in 1999, leaving the car to his daughter. She continued to store the car and protect it the secure garage until this year when she developed cancer. She called me and asked for my help to sell the car. I agreed to help her and enlisted a friend of mine, Travis Waggoner,who drag races Mustangs, to assist in getting the car ready to sell. Travis ordered a Marti Report on the car and found the following information:
1. The car was built in Dearborn in December, 1986;
2. Scarlet Red Paint, Ford #6236-A;
3. Mustang GT 2-door convertible;
4. White convertible top;
5. Scarlet Red Bodyside Molding;
6. 3.08 Traction-Lok Rear Axle
7. 5-speed Manual Overdrive Transmission
Travis provided a statement about how he went about getting this car ready to sell. "It's only original once." This is what guided us when it came time to wake this car up after sitting 30 years idle. All original parts were kept for documentation purposes. Great care was taken to assure we did not damage anything getting it running. Gas tank, fuel pump, and fuel filter were changed and fuel lines flushed. After the oil and filter change, the distributor was pulled and the oiling system was primed using a drill motor for several minutes (60 psi). Light oil was sprayed into each cylinder and the motor was turned over by hand several times. New Motorcraft sparkplugs, Motorcraft belt, Motorcraft battery and a Wix air filter were installed. The original air filter was in perfect shape and, along with any other parts changed, saved. The engine started on the first try. The air conditioning system still had some pressure. To be on the safe side, a certified technician evacuated the system, leak tested it, and service it with fresh oil and the correct R-12 Freon. A 2-mile test drive confirmed everything works and performs, well, like a brand new car. Car is located 30 minutes from Lubbock International Airport. In person inspections available by appointment.
A video of the Mustang with engine running is available upon request. No disappointments here. The car is still like new.
