1991 Ford E-Series Van Additional Info:
Thanks for taking a look. For sale is my decommissioned but fully-functional 1991 FBI / State Police (interagency) surveillance van. Being a unique vehicle, please feel free to reach out with any questions or requests for specific photos/video walkarounds.
I'll start by saying this 1991 Ford Econoline 350 is in excellent shape for its age. The reliable E350 - 5.8L V8 engine starts up flawlessly on even the coldest mornings and the automatic transmission shifts well. The frame is reinforced underneath and the van is incredibly well insulated, both behind the interior secondary frame, as well as in and around the doors. Dual gas tanks allow for longer range and with only 55,200 miles, it has plenty of life left. A fresh set of Goodyear Wrangler tires have been added in the last 500 miles, including a new matching spare on the back. A Curt 10,000lbs rated tow package has also been installed within the year, although a wiring harness must be added (can do before sale, if purchaser wishes - $55 quote). No maintenance records came with the van. However, a recent VA state inspection and overhaul was completed this week, including: Lube, Oil and Filter change, careful inspection of the front and rear suspension specifically ball joints, fresh alignment, new battery hold down kit, exhaust hanger replacement, new fuel filler neck hose, wiper blades and a coolant pressure test. The A/C system has been converted from the original R12 to 134a Freon and blows cold. A sticker in the van eludes to proper maintenance and care while government owned (see photo). The vans reliability during my ownership backs that up.The original training VHS and van manual come with the truck and the VHS tape plays without issue.
With respect to the surveillance equipment and operation... No prior surveillance van experience is required, as the original VHS training video has stuck with the van. It is thorough, campy and will leave you confident in operating all of the features, including but not limited to: Master power and circuit breaker operation, battery charging (needs new batteries) and maintenance, propane heat from propane tank welded under the van, ice-cooled A/C system, cab-to-rear intercom, headlight & taillight microphones (haven't tried working but intact), 360-degree adjustable raisable periscope with SLR/DSLR camera mount, carbon monoxide and oxygen monitoring systems, CB radio, video surveillance and camera tips/usage for night and day, etc. There is also an air duct system built into the engine bay/front cab that runs under the passenger seat, under the dead-bolted security door and into the rear surveillance area. I have not seen this in other similar vans. I have removed/added nothing regarding these features. The battery system charges from a 120V outlet located in the rear passenger-side wheel well via a common household extension cord. However, the batteries no longer hold a good charge and for offsite usage (engine off), I recommend they be replaced. In the meantime, however, plugging in the van allows for easy use of all systems with the engine off. OR running the engine allows for use of all electrical systems (this is what I do at car shows). The roof rack is wired for cameras, which were removed prior to my ownership.
The interior and exterior are in very good condition. The matte white exterior paint is bright and cleans up nicely. The van has no major dents, dings or deep scratches. There is a small rust bubble on one of the fender flares, which hasn't broken through yet (see photos). And there is surface rust in the rain channels, which I haven't even tried cleaning. The one pictured in photos is the worst, by far (please excuse the windshield pollen). The other channel has half that surface rust. I'm confident they would clean up nicely with a wire brush and fresh coat of rust-proofing paint. Common surface corrosion is found on the exhaust. Other than that, the van is incredibly rust free. I have more photos for interested buyers. Please message me for a complete discussion of the van's condition. The interior is in great shape. The leather upholstery in the cab is in fantastic shape, and the cloth fully-reclinable operator chair and bench seats in the rear are also in beautiful shape - nothing to criticize. The carpet throughout the van is in great shape, with only a couple small stains which may come out with deep cleaning in the rear (coffee mug stain, perhaps) - I haven't tried. The van does not smell of smoke or cigarettes. I'm happy to photograph any specific parts of the van for interested buyers.
Overall, this is a very unique vehicle in great shape and working order. Similar vans come for sale online, but the fresh tires, thorough inspection, converted A/C system, dual gas tanks, preferable year/style/color, condition, awesome periscope, training VHS, tow hitch and more set this one apart. It draws a crowd at car shows and has been a pleasure to own and enjoy. Perfect for any collector, law enforcement enthusiast, prepper, vanlife/converters, etc. Once again, thanks for reading my auction! I look forward to speaking with those interested - offers welcomed.
