1960 Ford F-100 Four Wheel Drive Big Window Additional Info:
Very hard to find, highly optioned, running and driving, large rear window, four wheel drive, stock and original 1960 Ford F100 stepside pickup truck with a PTO and Koenig winch. Up until 1958, Ford used Marmon-Herrington to do their 4WD conversions. In 1959 they started building their own 4WD trucks using the highly regarded and PTO-capable Dana 24 divorced transfer case. This 1960 model (same style as 1959 and last year for this body) was special ordered from the factory with some highly desirable options in addition to the very rare at the time four wheel drive upgrade. They include the big engine, stepside (vast majority were flareside), large rear window, two-tone paint, PTO, factory AM radio and more.
The running gear is in really good condition. The 292cid Y-Block V8 starts right up and runs well (albeit with a high idle). The 4 speed manual transmission shifts cleanly with no grinding but linkage is a little loose. The Dana 24 divorced transfer case shifts in and out of 2WD/4WD and Hi/Lo range properly. And the Dana 44 front and Ford 9 inch rear differentials both appear in great shape. The PTO lever shifts smoothly and the Koenig winch works. There are no mods to the running gear other than a Cherry Bomb style dual exhaust and locking hubs. It's got a new master cylinder but brakes still need to be bled. It was just taken on a 15 mile drive with no issues.
The interior is all original other than the seat upholstery. The dash is perfect with no cutting or butchery of any kind. All buttons, knobs and switches (minus two on the radio) are still there. And it still has the very cool, round, factory AM radio. Windows roll up and down properly. Gauges and idiot lights on the instrument cluster still work; aftermarket tachometer does not. Floor boards have typical rust-through but running boards are still solid. Vintage spotlights on both sides are a cool addition.
The exterior has a beautiful patina only Mother Nature could create. It has had a blue respray over the original Holly Green and White sometime in the ancient past. Rust is typical and confined to front fenders and cab corners. Doors open and close solidly. Side and rear glass are good other than some delamination in the flat vent windows. Windshield is cracked but replacements are readily available in the aftermarket. Vintage grill guard is a neat addition. Tires are brand new on period correct rims. And it still has the original wood flooring in the bed.
