Looking great in its factory correct shade, this 1968 Ford Mustang Coupe will provide all the evidence you need as to why it and its first-generation Mustang stablemates created such a stir when introduced. For the car enthusiast who is looking for more than an eye-catching conversation piece, it's got a lot to offer, as its combination of a nice tight ride and subtly modified engine make it a great frequent driver, as well. A legion of action movie enthusiasts... may have been drawn to Ford's Highland green metallic exterior that's featured on this classic via the iconic move, "Bullitt," but it was a popular color choice among Mustang buyers regardless, giving the cars it's graced a nice understated but attractive look. It's in good form on this coupe, showing a nice shine from front to back and no major blemishes. The GT-style C stripes that run along the sides from front fender back to the quarter panels provide a nice contrast to the verdant shade around them, and they too remain impressively clean, with nice sharp edges. Notice how the upper edges of those stripes remain level and consistent as they transition from fender to door to quarter panel, a good indication that this Mustang's panel alignment is on point. The front and rear bumpers, as well as the headlight and taillight casings - so often problem areas for unsightly pitting on classic cars - also look good here, with nice, smooth surfaces. Climb inside and you'll find a very road-ready, black vinyl interior that retains its original configuration. The low backed buckets up front and the bench seat in back are still well-padded and comfortable, just as you'd want in a frequent driver, and even the quarter trim in back, often the recipient of passenger and cargo damage, looks fresh and shiny. A clean expanse of black carpeting runs underneath the seating, punctuated with a pair of branded Mustang floor mats up front. The dash area is also in good shape, with no tears on its pad above, and a set of easily readable gauges sitting in the instrument cluster that are surrounded by bezels still showing a nice chrome-colored finish. A set of four in-dash registers teams with strong functioning air conditioning and heat to keep you and your passengers comfortable when you embark on your journeys and a retro-style AM/FM radio with an auxiliary input stands by to handle your audio needs. Clearly, Ford got things right when they built their 289 cubic inch V8. As evidence, we submit that there are so many still out on the road - a testament to their durability. The 289 sitting in this tidy engine bay carries a 4-barrel carb, and is in good form, starting easily and rumbling convincingly with a deep, dominant exhaust note. It's bolted to a 3-speed automatic C4 transmission that's also known for dependability to forge a drivetrain very suitable for frequent driving. An export brace ties the two sides of the engine compartment together and substantially reduces body flex. This is a nice driver in all aspects, with smooth power steering that remains impressively tight, and power brakes that include discs up front - a welcome feature more commonly seen on Mustang GTs - to provide fade resistant stopping power. This classic Ford coupe rides on a set of 15" Magnum 500 wheels that are outfitted with Cooper Cobra tires. With its great combination of good looks and abiding road manners, this 1968 Ford Mustang Coupe would be a great acquisition. Call today!
