Lower, wider, and longer is how Detroit made cars in the '60s, and this 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 coupe is arguably the best way to show that off - it's big, bright, and has a powerful 428 V8. But the most impressive part is that this whole package is quite affordable. It's hard not to love the mid-60s Galaxies. The people at Ford made sure that their full-sized car was represented well with cool design touches like placing the headlights... and taillights as far in the corners of the body as possible. That way everything looked stretched to the max. This allowed for some seriously large chrome elements such as the wide bumpers, and the grille that almost looks billet-style straight from the factory. But take a closer look at all this brightwork. Even the correct wheel covers are in place to give this an awesome original-style quality. And this is the exact kind of coupe that deserves to show off its originality. The pillarless hardtop, sheetmetal crease running down the side, and the pinstriping all come together to give this one of the sportiest profiles of the day. The cherry red interior almost radiates from within against the exterior white. We suspect the seats to be original (after all, the texturing running down the center is the kind of thing that is nearly impossible to replicate today.) But beyond just appearance, with its wide split front bench and spacious rear bench seatin, you know you have the versatility to take everyone for a ride in this Galaxie 500. You've even got great original features like the AM radio and factory air conditioning. But no matter how many people come along, you always will enjoy this coupe. The driver gets to experience classic American motoring with the intricate design of the vintage steering wheel, and beyond that is the original speedometer that's so wide it seems to need its own zip code. Plus, the auxiliary gauges are a nice hint to something special in the engine bay. Pop the hood and you're treated to a big block presentation. Not only do you get the famous 428 cubic-inch V8, but also it has been enhanced with an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor and Edelbrock intake. That means you get plenty of power for the streets and a wicked growl from the dual exhaust. But really this is the kind of car you can enjoy at a much more leisurely pace. It's a power steering coupe with a three-speed automatic transmission and power brakes. So, some of your happiest moments will likely be the trips in between the car shows and cruise-ins. Powerful, well-preserved, and affordable - this Galaxie 500 has all the right earmarks to be a terrific classic coupe. It's a driver's car that's ready for the first one to recognize how nice a deal this is. Don't miss out, call today!
