The magnetic spell that classic cars have over us is an undeniable force, but one that often comes with some conflict. When curb appeal capable of stopping you dead in your tracks also comes with a primitive driving experience - where you can feel every imperfection in the road, the rear end seems to be a little tardy coming out of turns and you can feel ever-increasing sponginess with repeated brake usage - it tends to dampen your enthusiasm. That's a challenge ably solved by this 1967 Ford Mustang GT350 tribute. It combines its outstanding vintage looks with a host of well-chosen modern upgrades that make it an absolute blast to drive.
You'll find a sizable legion of Mustang enthusiasts who believes that the first-generation fastbacks, upon which the GT350 is based, are among the best-looking classic cars to ever roll off the assembly line and this Tribute, with its shiny Indigo blue metallic paint - an inspired updating very close to the original shade - certainly reinforces that notion. A smoothly contoured broad scoop rises from its striped hood, accompanied by very well-fitted scoops on its rear roofline and fenders - just like its inspiration - and a special edition chrome grille bearing its GT350 logo sits up front to let you know as it arrives that this is one special Pony. It's a very finished looking car, with front and rear bumpers that sit nice and level, a signature spoiler that lines up well with its surrounding steel and chrome trim and light housings that all look great.
The black vinyl interior is a stunner - a very skillful and effective recreation of the GT350's vintage look with a whole host of impressive features. The front buckets are very well-padded, with no wear marks or creasing on their surfaces, and they feature headrests - a welcome safety feature. Beyond the custom Cobra steering wheel that's an attraction on its own sits an exceptional dash area combining smooth black steel and sharp-looking brushed aluminum panels, with an instrument cluster whose restored factory gauges are framed by unblemished silver and sit behind crystal clear lenses. A trio of vents bring the output of the Classic Auto Air Perfect Fit system into the cabin to keep everyone comfortable. You'll find what appears to be the original stock AM radio sitting front and center, but it's been given updated FM capabilities and iPod connectivity and teams with speakers in both front and back to fill the cabin with sound.
To climb behind the wheel is to be afforded a very special driving experience. A strong running 302V8 sits under the hood, outfitted with an Edelbrock Thunder Series 4-barrel carb and Cobra branded valve covers and air cleaner. It teams with T-5 World Class transmission and a Cobra IRS whose 3.27 ratio is a great fit for the T-5, resulting in excellent acceleration and low-rev cruising at highway speeds. You just don't come across a combination of transmission and rear end upgrades like the ones here, as that IRS not only means this Pony features both coilovers and power disc brakes at all four corners, but its live axle keeps this classic from skipping around on uneven surfaces like its stock counterparts. A number of extra steps have been taken to bring this Tribute's road manners to an even higher level, including the recent rebuild of its front end, transmission and clutch and the addition of a TCP shock tower brace for additional rigidity. This exceptionally configured classic sits on a set of 17" American Racing wheels, wrapped with General G-Max tires.
The combination of vintage curb appeal and outstanding driving experience offered by this 1967 Ford Mustang GT350 Tribute makes it a rare find. Call today!
