1949 Ford Custom Sedan Additional Info:

Car buying enthusiasm was really starting to ramp up in the aftermath of WWII and Ford would decisively beat its rivals to the punch to accommodate the demand it created, offering this 1949 Ford Custom Sedan - the first all-new design featured in any post-War car and a vintage ride that greets the present in unusually road-ready condition.
The Ford design team, no longer content with the prevailing norm of sticking with relatively minor modifications year over year, instead opted to create a car from the ground up that, with the exception of its drivetrain, was very different than anything that came before it. The result was this sleek sedan, with a streamlined shape and fully integrated fenders that no longer protrude from its corners, the way its predecessors did just a year before. Its refined form wears a deep blue shade, offset with a still-impressive display of chrome, especially up front where the grille and rugged front bumper sit underneath the semi-circle Ford badge with an awesome bullet-like protrusion at dead center. Despite its years, this '49 has done a great job of avoiding the ravages of gravity and extensive use - its body panels are still evenly spaced and all of its chrome trim and badging remains securely in place.
It's one seriously cool vintage interior sitting just inside the doors and looking pretty darned vital at that. The sofa-shaped front and rear bench seats are covered in very era-appropriate gray cloth that shows no tears and, if you look between them, you'll see there's plenty of legroom in back, as Ford included an enlarged cabin area as part of its redesign plans. The door panels feature a sharp pinstripe pattern and handles that are all still functional. The dash area must have seemed very futuristic when this sedan debuted, with the large dial of its speedometer sitting just above the row of control switches and an AM radio and generously-proportioned analog clock at its center. All that refinement this '49 offers came with no loss of trunk space - there's a lot of it surrounding the full-size spare that sits in its proper upright position in back.
You won't see much in life that's gone through nearly seven decades before emerging in the impressive condition shown by this Ford's drivetrain. The original 239 cubic inch flathead V8 sits with its ornate, black-capped air cleaner and unusually clean surfaces in the engine bay, and it's not just there for authenticity's sake - it starts right up and, with new water and fuel pumps onboard, remains fully capable of real-world driving. Just in back sits the also original 3-speed manual transmission whose secure shifts are all the more impressive considering its age, featuring a pull-handle activated overdrive gear whose first use will take you back in time. A number of other steps have been taken to better equip this vintage sedan for frequent use, including the conversion to a more dependable 12-volt electrical system, as well as the addition of a new master cylinder, power brake booster and fuel lines. A look below at the solid undercarriage will reveal yet another feature that was revolutionary for its time: a ladder-style steel frame that carries a fully-independent front suspension. This well-priced vintage sedan is ready to roll on a set of 15" stock original Ford wheels wrapped with Frontier Golden Jet radials.
Vintage sedans are hard to come by to begin with, but factor in an original configuration and impressively solid running condition and they become far more so ... yet that's just what you'll find in this 1949 Ford Custom Sedan. Call today!
