1976 Ford Other Gran Torino Broughm Additional Info:
A variety of Gran Torinos were provided by Ford for use in the filming of the series, ranging from 1974 to 1976 models. Depending upon their role in filming, some cars received 351-cu.in. Windsor V-8s, while the stunt cars received either 400-cu.in. or 460-cu.in. V-8s, depending upon model year. To improve acceleration for the (frequent) chase scenes, rear gearing was altered on some of the cars, prompting the studio to place a “Do Not Exceed 50 MPH” warning label on at least one vehicle’s dashboard used in second-season filming. All of the cars had a few things in common, however: All came painted in code 2B “Bright Red,” all received a white “vector” stripe designed by the show’s transportation coordinator, George Grenier, and all wore five slot mag wheels with blackwall tires (to avoid promoting any particular brand).
