1978 Ford F-250 Crew Cab Additional Info:

I pulled this one out of the garage and took it for a spin to blow the dust off of it. It drives and looks amazing; however, it’s time to let it go and let someone else enjoy it. You do not see to many in this shape and good of condition driving around so don’t miss out on this one. I would not advertise the truck as restored as it isn’t, but I will say it is a very clean truck that has had a lot of work put into it. This truck receives a lot of complements and people always comment on how clean it is.

Here is the story:

I stumbled across this truck about 3 years ago. The previous owner had it repainted about 10 years ago. I bought the truck and noticed that it had a noise in the transmission and since I decided I wanted to keep this truck I decided to replace the motor and tranny. My buddy was pulling his motor and tranny out to install a Cummins 12V so I bought his 460, C6 and NP205 from him since I knew the history on them. They were all in good working order and it was his daily driver that he would use to drive everywhere and to tow over the mountains to go hunting with. Once I got them, I thought it would be a good idea to re-gasket the intake, valve covers, oil pan, etc. I pulled off the exhaust manifolds, media blasted them, had them resurfaced and painted. I also painted the motor, installed new valve covers, bought L&L motor mounts, L&L Power Steering Bracket, new PS Pump, etc. I also put a new tranny pan gasket on it, new filter and changed the input/output seals (Both Tranny and transfer Case). Then I cleaned it up and realized that the motor, tranny and transfer case combo were way nicer then the engine bay and decided to clean up the engine bay and this is what lead to start of a complete tear down and refurbishing of this crew cab.

Over the next year, I stripped the truck down to the frame and decided to build it back up. I media blasted, wire wheeled and cleaned up every piece of metal on this truck that did not match the exterior color of the truck. I prepped everything with Zero Rust (it’s a phenolic-modified alkyd coating which controls rust and corrosion, look it up, it’s amazing) and then painted parts appropriately. As you can see in the pictures I tore everything down and cleaned it. I inspected every part and if it was in good working order, I cleaned and reused it and if it was bad I replaced it with new or rebuilt it. I have only driven the truck about 20 miles as during this process I decided that I wanted a long bed crew cab (which is why I am selling this truck) so I could haul my camper and to use as my daily driver (you can see my long bed crew cab in the back ground of one of the videos).

Here are the specs on the truck:

1978 Ford F-250 Crew Cab 4x4 Custom (No AC)

Motor: 460 V8, Runs Good, Rebuilt Holly Carb (needs to be fine-tuned, runs a little rich), Edelbrock Performer Alum Intake, New Water Pump, New Power Steering Pump, L&L Motor Mounts, L&L Power Steering Bracket, Replaced Intake, Oil Pan, Valve Cover Gaskets, New Valve Covers/Air Cleaner and repainted Ford Blue

Tranny: Ford C6, I replaced the pan gasket, input shaft seal and replaced the filter and put in new transmission fluid. I was told it was rebuilt with a shift kit but it had over 40k miles on it. I do not have the paperwork so I cannot guarantee that it was rebuilt but it operates as it should and seams to shift well. I also cleaned it up and repainted it Ford Blue

Transfer Case: NP205 I replaced the output seals, cleaned up and painted if Ford Blue. It operates as it should

Exhaust: I media blasted the exhaust manifolds, had them resurfaced and painted them with special high heat paint. Installed new gaskets, had new 2.5” exhaust installed that feeds into a single Magna Flow muffler and then comes out to a single 3” with a nice exhaust tip on the passenger’s side. Check out the video it sounds good. It has a nice deep mellow tone at idle and at cruise speeds but it sounds good when you hammer down on the gas.

Suspension: New 4” lift, New Shocks, New Steering Stabilizer.

Front Axle: Dana 44 high pinion, new outer seals, new rotors, new calipers, new pads, new U-Joints in Axle Shaft’s, new stainless steel braided extended brake lines, every piece was stripped to bare metal and repainted (even the dust shields)

Rear Axle: Dana 60, New Seals, Brakes were good so I did not replace them, new stainless steel braided extended brake line, every piece was stripped to bare metal and repainted.

Drivelines/Drivetrain: Drivelines received new U-Joints, the carrier bearing and the front CV looked good so I did not replace, every piece was stripped to bare metal and then repainted

Fuel System: New Rubber Fuel Lines, Cleaned up all the hard lines and repainted them in a grey colored Zero Rust, I removed the tanks, cleaned up the outside, sanded them and repainted them also in a grey color Zero Rust.

Wheels and Tires: 35”x12.5x17” Toyo MT’s and 17x10 Chrome Rims with 4.5” offset so they fit the truck very well.

Paint: The previous owner had it repainted about 10 years ago. The paint and the race track trim could use a good cleaning an polishing (I polished one piece and it looks like a mirror). There is some slight discoloration on the silver by the hood (See Picture) and a few other spots. I would rate the paint a 6/7 out of 10 (But I am really picky) but take a look for yourself and see how you would rate it.

Interior: I installed new ACC carpet (Dark Charcoal) had the headliner and seats recovered. The dash is cracked but I have a matching color replacement dash that goes with the truck if you would like it (You have to install it).

Underside of Truck: I removed the cab and bed from the truck, took a scraper to it so I could clean off all the grim that a normal 40 year old truck has. Once it was cleaned, I prepped it and sprayed Zero Rust on it and then used a 3M product to undercoat it. It looks very clean and should offer a lot of protection for the years to come.

If I was to keep this truck I would do the following items:

- I would drive the truck and get some miles on it and then check all of the nuts and bolts. I have triple checked them already (twice before I drove it and then once again after I put about 10 miles on it).

- I would install mirrors. The previous owner never installed them after it was painted and since there are three different styles for this era truck, I decided I would let the new owner install them since this is a preference.

- I did not replace the window felt for the four roll up windows, I would suggest doing that as it looks like the original set

- I removed the rear bumper and installed the one in the pictures as I liked the chrome bumper better than the silver colored steel bumper. I did not clean the backside of the bumper or the brackets so I would do that as it would drive me nuts (Maybe I am OCD lol)

- I would buy an old school bug guard for the truck either red or smoked in color. Not only because it would look cool but because it would hide the fact that the FORD letters are missing from the hood but also because of the few chips in the paint.

- I would drive and enjoy it!!

Sorry for the long story but I tried to describe everything to the best of my ability and show a lot of pictures and videos but eBay put a limit on me soI could not get everything uploaded so please let me know if you have any questions, need additional pictures of it (during the process or after), or want some videos of this truck. My name is Boe and my contact info is 253-278-5410. If you are local, I encourage you to come take a look and take it for a spin (I also have it listed for sale locally). I have not driven the truck in the rain since it has been completed so no test drives if the roads are wet. I will let the new owner dirty up the truck as the underside is very clean.

Shipping is up to you to arrange and to pay for. I can meet a shipper locally or drive up to 25 miles to drop it off for you. I have a clean title in my name and would like a $500 deposit via Pay Pal within2 days. Once the rest of the funds have been received (wire transfer or cashier’s check) and cleared my bank, I will priority ship the title to you and the truck will be ready to be picked up by you oryour transporter. I am easy going and will work with you but I will not mail the title or ship the truck until funds have cleared my bank sorry but I have a lot of money and time into this truck.

Thanks for looking and happy bidding!!
